The clutch on my 2001 Tuscan started dragging quite severely in a short space of time recently. Having checked both master and slave cylinders are operating ok I suspect either a diaphragm finger or star washer has failed (the car has done 25k on the original clutch). Question is, can I inspect either the diaphragm fingers or star washers without dropping the gearbox? I have access to a boroscope if required and understand drilling a small hole in the bell housing was sometimes done to adjust something by the factory or dealers, I could do this as a last resort?
Anyone done anything similar?

It's a classic sign and at 25k you are probably due a clutch so I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to be able to check.

It's worth checking if you have a warranty that covers these two failures but not others. Would just like to know before it's returned to the garage.

if its dragging then it will (more than lightly) be the clutch springs have worn a little dent into the flywheel, the clutch assembly can be removed and turned to a new position but if this has been done previously then its a new flywheel. had this on mine recently and the clutch was only half worn but was dragging and on inpection the assembly had previously been turned so i ended up with a new flywheel (race lightened of course) and new clutch "while it was off"

To answer your question, gearbox and bell housing need to be off to inspect the clutch, does sound like its at the end of its life though.
New clutch, hydraulic seals and realise bearing while your there, job done.

A lightened flywheel is a tempting upgrade, how you getting on with it?
