Noticed today that I have a small split in the manafold nearest the radiator.
It has caused some burning on the chassis next to the manifold which drew my attention to it.

So can i wrap it in a bandage you know these exhaust wrap type things to prevent the heat escaping?
Can I get it welded? and if so what type of welding should it be.
Does the manifold have to be removed,, It looks quiet easy to access the split but as I am not much good with mechanics I would have to take it is some where.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Model of car is a 2003 Cerbera Speed Six

I have a 2001 Cerb S6, so similar engine bay layout. Here's before and after pictures from the damages caused, simply by the heat of the manifolds on the chassis. The repair work was carried out by STR8SIX.

Hi Far Eastender,
My 2003 Cerb came with the heat sheilding fitted so thankfully no such damage I just have some scorching on the upper chassi rail in front of the engine mounts. I should be able to rub this down and re-paint no problem.

There is enough access to get the split manifold welded I think , getting the front three manifolds of looks tricky especially with my limited mechanics. So I hope it can be welded without removing.

George

The heat sheilding that is there seems to be ok I can't see any damage to the chassis below it.
Now I need to fix the split somehow then repair the chassis area that has been scorched.

George, If you look at the top of the first picture, you can see where the heat-shielding was all burned off. My car had the chassis protected, but what TVR used, was obviously not good enough (could apply to many of the parts!).

Far E,

Are you saying that your car came with the heatsheilding that you show in your last picture or as you can see in my picture, yet still caused extensive damage to your chassis..

I have checked mine as close as I can it does seem to be okay, although it is a worry if your chassis damage happened despite the heat sheiding being in place. AS far as I am aware TVR applied this heat sheilding to all cars from late 2002 onwards.

I really dont want to be taking the engine out to inspect fully which I think is the only way to be a 100% sure but as far as I can see it looks ok.

Anyway I want to get the manifold fixed first then I'll take it to my Indie and get it on a ramp to see if they can see any Chassis damage behind the shielding.

I had a 2001 tuscan that didn't have the shielding and yes there was a slight burning around the cats and manifold but nothing that concerened me to much and certainly wasn't mentioned at any of the services I had on it eitherscratchchin

George, My car came with an inferior heat shielding and my new one (as is your current one) was installed by STR8SIX. What I might suggest is that you have your exhaust Zircotec coated, as this should dramatically reduce the amount of heat escaping from the manifolds. Take a look here:

I'd be interested in how they secured it to the chassis - it looks at first glance that they've drilled the chassis and riveted it, but I'd like to think they haven't done that and maybe there's something under that heat shielding that they have riveted it to.
