just picked my tuscan up from a 12,000 mile service, had a few minor probs front and rear pads, etc. £1,400 im not moaning if thats the av price but my heart was broken as i typed in my pin number !!! what are your thoughts am i just being tight?
Depends what they done to the brakes but a standard 12k service is £350 plus parts/oil and valve clearance so if you pay more than £700.00 all in you've been mugged for a sevice only. New pads all round are about £150.00 including vat, so the labour on your brakes was £650.00 T450t said:

My speed 6 Cerbera has just had a 12k service, price was just under 4k
Are you witholding any info by any chance.I would say looking at the bill the last owner (lady owner) got well ripped off.
The labour alone was nearly 2k
Hey Guys. Your shopping in the wrong place. I run a TVR Service garage in Blackpool with ex TVR machanics and I am shocked with what TVR garages charge throughout the uk, we supply collection/delivery and fixed price servicing with free MOT included. Check out our web site through my profile... We are dedicated to keeping your TVR on the road.

I had a recent look at my receipts for my previous 6k and 12k service, they include what you`ve got done minus the new radiator.
It comes to ~£2500 but also includes 2 services, 2 new sensor's, fuel return pipe and various MOT bits and bobs.
Also includes me hanging around, asking questions and generally finding out loads about the S6

That price seems steep but perfectly feasible depending where you took it? Some places charge upwards of £800 for a major service, plus labour plus parts, so with brakes included its possible.
However, personally i wouldnt pay it! Brake pads are pretty simple to do yourself, and a major service from Green Star is extremely well priced and they have a fabulous reputation. Put it this way, i reckon for the same work you would have been nearer half that bill with a free MOT to boot...
There are a few other doing a major service for under £400 and several have good reputations, from people who have actually had experience of them on here.
Even the £4K cerby bill sounds steep. Engine Mounts £60 odd, Rad (new £400 odd and recored £200) clutch £1.2k (fitted), plus the cerby service @ around £400 means you paid around £2k for labour on engine mounts and fitting a rad...a little bit steep unless im missing something!!

My 12k service was £1400
This included full service (with fluids etc)
Front Disks, pads all round
Engine mounts
Fitting of Racing Reds with full set up
My 6k sevice just cost me £450 with a new boot solanoid fitted so quite happy about that.
Were the shims done in that price as in contrast to the others, that sounds too cheap. This included full service (with fluids etc)

I had a 12k service this time last year and cost me a lot more (I had Racing Reds as well).
I have only done 1000 miles since and no oil has been used. Do others have there car serviced every 12 months even if it doesn't need it!?

I get mine serviced every 12 months even though it only does 3000 miles a year. Its due a big service this year but I will have only done around 6000 miles at the most so not sure if there is any point in having all the filters etc changed when they havent had time to bung up with crap.
Not wanting to prolong an unecessary debate, but I think that part of the problem surrounding peoples perceptions of TVR servicing being expensive is that quite often there is a lot of additional work above and beyond regular servicing being carried out, this incurs more labour and parts costs, but it all gets described as a service!
Our schedule for servicing a Speed Six engined car takes 6.5 hours for a 6k service. This comes out at £586.15 exc VAT or is discounted to £508.15 if you're an existing customer/TVR Car Club member. (These prices include parts/labour).
A 12k service,(8 hours including checking valve clearances), comes out at £832.91 exc. or £736.91 if as above.
If you cover a low annual mileage (2-3k p.a.)then we can carry out a 'Lubrication and Inspection' service (4 hours work) for £386.33 or £338.33 respectively.
I know that a number of other dealers operate similar schemes too and I think that we need folks to understand that routine servicing is not cost prohibitive. Yes, you can spend a lot of money on your pride and joy if there are jobs that have mounted up or the car has been neglected, but thorough, routine servicing need not stop you enjoying your car!
By comparison modern, mass-produced cars are 'cheap' to service because, apart from an oil and filter change with a quick visual inspection of brakes, nothing much else is done!! Some manufacturers schedules don't even stipulate the removal of the roadwheels ntil the car has covered 40k miles!!
I just wanted to try and inject a degree of reality into peoples perceptions and hopefully inform those folks who are thinking of partaking in the TVR experience!
Best regards to all, Tony
