Since owning my car it's had a habit of dropping a few cylinders at very low revs and tiny throttle settings. Just the sort you use when the car is cold and your being gentle. So it's annoying.

The problem was vastly improved when the car had a recent shim adjustment during a major service. While fishing for an unrelated issue, I got the diagnostic software connected up. And being a busy body touched the throttle with the engine off. Imagine my surprise to see the results on the screen. I can move the throttle peddle about 3-5mm (it’s hard to determine how far my foot is really moving); just off it’s stop before the second pot registers. In other words pot A moves with no slack, pot B will not register the throttle movement until some travel has been achieved. I assume this will cause the ECU to under fuel the bank with the laggy pot (B). Either way it’s not right. When pushing my foot the rest of the way down the Pot’s stay within 1-3% of each other. All with the engine off.

I've already ordered a synchrometer in preparation. I presume it is possible to achieve a perfect balance... ?

Update - I reset the throttle pot's using the software - it's the adaptives that seem to be out by some 5 to 20% depending on where the throttle is.

That's interesting as I had the same light throttle/low revs issue as you describe originally. It was better after a 12k service but still not perfect, although come to think of it, I haven't noticed it recently.

Sorted it - reset the adaptives - I would have thought this would have been done at the service but obviously not.
I know the car had a few issues before I got it. Now it will if requested pull cleanly from 500rpm.

I wouldn't have mine idling at 500rpm, if I turned the aircon on it would be clicking like a timex. biggrin

If it hadn't died first.
