Can anyone tell me the best way of removing the cam cover from a Speed Six once you have removed the obvious bolts as I am in the process of geeting it powder coated and it appears to be stuck on?

And do I need to replace the gasket and/or seal it once the cam cover has been removed?

I thought everything was just stuck on with Sikaflex on those engines, so remove by careful prying and use the same technique to re-seal afterwards (no gasket as such).

Thanks, I will just try and persist in getting the cover off.

Does anyone know which one of the Sikaflex adhesives do they use on Cam Cover?

you use any silicone sealant that is heat resistant.

TVR recommend loctite 598 i believe, but any sealant will do exactly the same job.

Get one of Racing Greens cam cover gaskets, not cheep but can be re used and its a lot neater than having sealer allover.

I`ve had a problem with mine. Its not 100% confirmed (as I have to drop the car down on Friday) but I beleive its split somehow..

I managed to get a small black cloud (smelt of burning plastic/rubber) from the exhaust side of the engine whilst stopped at a petrol station (now thats something that causes blind panic..)

Noticed a high pitched (pressure related) whistle from the exhaust side..

Having said that the guy who services the car's in Ireland has fitted 10 of them without any problems and they do some highly recommended biggrin

Killerjim, did you have one of their early cheaper gaskets or the more expensive viton one? About £30 vs £50 ish.

I ask as they dont sell the cheaper one anymore due to problems, I have the more expensive one fitted, which is all they would sell me in June, no problems yet but I've not done many miles.

Cost me ~£80 including fitting so I`m not 100% sure, it was fitted only a week ago and was numebr 10 of a batch of 10 (and no-others had problems)

Will find out more this Friday and post the findings..

I used a 3/4 inch wide wood chisel with flat side to the head & tap gently with rubber mallet worked a treat. Raceproved have a super gasket on there pre-oiler system speak to Russ/Jonathon i am sure they will sell you one
