anybody booked a Melling Rebuild yet???
Discussion
Some people's earnings are from lengthily-extended development projects that never achieve the over-hyped promises... ...because they don't need to.
Is this different?
Melling's recent extraordinary power claims and indeed capacity increases, remain totally unproven publicly, and seem totally laughable to me.
I know the detailed work that most of the respected S6 engine builders have carried out further developing the S6 for power and reliability in the last two years, and I had a 4.5 running (briefly!) 18months ago.
IMHO, for a whole host of reasons the reality will get nowhere near the claims.

why is everyone so negative about the Melling rebuild?? yet other rebuilds are the dogs danglies.
Because, for example, Racing Green spent ages developing their S6 improvements, kept quiet during R&D, and then only officially announced when they had a demonstrator. Melling, on the other hand, pumps out one fantasy Press Release after another. A bit like the post-Wheeler TVR. They obviously belong together.

You would think the guy who thought up the engine and said it was reliable, (then TVR changed it) would be able to get the engine how it should be.
Depends on who you talk to. Some say TVR changed it for very good reasons. Edited by JonRB on Wednesday 21st October 13:00

As soon as he released the Melling Wildcat, everyone and their Parrot, jumped on the "its a st car" bandwagon without actually knowing what the hell it was.
I'll leave my judgements untill I at least hear from a good source that its worth/not worth it.

I've heard from quite a few different sources that it was a cost cutting excercise (TVR Esque) and surely removing oil ways is never ever going to be a good thing.
I've heard from other sources that the S6 that TVR brought to market was (ironically) far more reliable than Melling's original design. If Melling's is so good, why isn't it in full production? Why wait until Racing Green, TVR Power and Wilder all came out with alternative designs? He could have got to market far sooner by simply using his wonderful original design if it was perfect and TVR merely ballsed it up. Edited by JonRB on Wednesday 21st October 13:29
