Does anybody know how the oil flows around the S6 and if there are any non return valves in it to stop the oil draining from the galleries? Is it worth fitting a filter with a built in non-return valve?

Also, why is the oil tank designed such that when the engine is off, all the oil drains back into the engine through the scavenge pump? Would it not be better to fit a riser pipe within the the tank for the scavenge feed so that the oil level remains at a constant minimum? This would mean that the main oil pump is always primed. It would surely reduce dry running problems at start up considerably?

Dave, the oil return pipe is much above the level of the feed pipe so it should never return via the scavenge pump to the extent that there is no oil available to the high pressure feed pump. Or at least it is on mine!

Where does the oil in the tank drain away to then after the engine's been stopped for a while? You can hear it gurgling and draining away when the engine stops.

I saw those pre oilers a while ago when they were introduced. Whilst good, they're a bit OTT for a road car imho.

I presume it drains through the scavenge pump untill it reaches the bottom of the return line fitting, this level would be under the dip stick but still above the feed take off for the HP pump i would have thought.

The flow on the scavenge pump is huge, only takes a couple of seconds to pump a litre on initial start up until it clears the sump then it spits oil and air out. Air probably due to the poor/non existance pcv system.

Maybe important to advise that there is an oil filter
in the inlet flange on oiltank mounted.
Regular check is a must, i found a lot of old sealing
inside this filter!
Also i am able to drain the sump, we modified the space around the screw, normally wihtout mods the screw cannot de dismounted, while oil change approx
2 liters came out the sump!

Does anybody know the mods between old and newer engine housings,
the newer ones shall have better castings and modified oilways?
Is this true or only another TVR story?

Later castings definitely have better oil and water flows. The water cooling improvement is significant, perhaps 10 degrees or so at max temp. My new block sits around 85-90 degrees now whilst hot in traffic. The oil flow is also different, better galaries, better casting finish, more direct flow, more reliable flow.

My new block was provided by str8 six...

Important to note that on the speed six in tuscans the oil filter is a rubbishy little cartridge mounted to the engine whereas in cerberas its a much larger remote mount item. Maybe a worthwhile mod.
And the little guaze filter in the inlet is a vital but often overlooked part.
