Alternator belt replacement
Discussion
How easy is it to change the Alternator belt on the Spd 6 engine? Having a look under the hood today on the Tam and noticed the belt has started to fray round one edge where its rubbed slightly on the engine block. I am guessing this is/was an adjustment issue but would like to replace it to be on the safe side. Do I get Castle to do it or do I do it myself? Not scared about having a go but don't want to make a mess of it.
I've just changed the alternator on our T350, it was a bit fiddly in places but it wasn't too difficult considering. Just remove the airbox, then remove the bolt holding the alternator in place on the bracket nearest the driver's side (there is only 1 on this side). Loosen off the two bolts that attach the alternator to the engine and then you should be able to push the alternator down far enough to get the belt off. Set aside a good couple of hours i'd say.
Of course, it'd be much easier to explain if I had taken pictures whilst doing the job, but that's the best I can describe it!
If you were anywhere near Bristol I'd offer to help in person, but feel free to PM/Message here if you need any help.
