Does anyone know what the two tabs (2in x 1in approx)are there for on the side of the spark plug cover and the two grooves cast into the rocker cover?I want to machine a new plug cover and also machine (cnc) the rocker cover to suit.I was hoping to weld the slots up,blend with surrounding areas, then machine recess so it fits new insert properly with little or no sealer.Regards,Steve.

I'm sure someone is going to correct me, but:

There was a rumour going round a few years ago that they were there to aid water drainage.... just got put on the wrong side and no-one bothered to change the dies.

Raceprooved's aftermarket pre-oiling rocker cover doesn't have the groves.

You are correct. The version I have been told is that the drawing got transposed and the 'spars' were facing up rather than down
