Speed Six project

Got myself an engine , its covered in melted T350, pipes and airbox at the moment. Gonna clean it up, strip it, put it back together and see if it works! Pics are on going on Flickr will be updating periodically throughout the project.

Should be fun!

would love to see your progress with this.

once you pop the cam cover could you do some shots of the cams and fingers and valves. Trying to get an idea if the valve seals are DIYable

BGB - yep might sell the cats, need to make sure they're good first.

Fume - Its not planned to go in anything, if i get it working ill drop it in my tuscan and rebuild the 4 ltr thats in there at the mo.

Daston - Yep no probs, should have it clean enough to take the top off by the weekend, ill get some video as well if that helps.

James you must be single or will be shortly with that sitting in the house the mrs would be chuffed. Will she let you use the dish washer to clean up the burnt bits?

Yeah its cosmetic damage really. One of the throttle bodies needs replacing, injectors, air con compressor and alternator have checked out. No damage to the block or head, dampner looks good to.

My other half lives a couple of hundred miles away. I'd never get away with it if we lived together! Still dont think shes gonna be to immpressed when she comes to stay, its in the kitchen and its a tight squeeze getting into the fridge!

throttle pots and cam cover off, some of the lobes have rust on em! Need to get it on a stand ASAP to get the sump and front off. Anybody got any pics of a speed six mounted on a stand, not sure how to get it centred?

got the engine on the stand. Mounted to the gearbox threads. Stand supports it quite well, if i could spend the money again id get a better stand,its a bit wobbely!

thanks for the shots! They dont let you have too much room in the head do they! Looks like my engine is coming out and I am either going to fix all the valve guides or replace the head with a stage 2 one.

XTR2 - yep ill have any info/pics you've got please mate. Im going all the way, complete strip, clean and build.

Datson - I'll be taking the head to bits in the next few days, will video it and post.

Anybody got an idea where to get the engine plans from? Thinking i might blueprint it.

Flipping heck.....the dampner is off....what a nightmare....Broke two of the machine mart pullers, went to halfords for a socket and found the puller attached in the photo, made by lazer. Braced it with some square washers from B+Q, alot of wrenching with a 21" breaker bar, some dodgy noises and scuffed knuckles later the thing started to move and eventually came off....





Not looking forward to getting it back on!!!

Camshaft removal went smoothly. Head bolts are a bi*ch though. May have to take it off the stand to get em undone.

silly question but with a chain how do you know where it was when you put it back on? Its not like you can mark as you would a belt.
