I have tuscan 2000 (X) which requires a top end rebuild, worn finger followers and cams. Is it worth having just a top end rebuild or is this just false economy, as I would think that some swarf from the cams/finger followers will have made its way into the bottom end. Anyone just had a top end rebuild and are you happy with it?

For a top end rebuild the engine needs to come out. So whilst its out you might as well change the clutch and check the master cylinder.

Not strictly true, It may well be easier to do with the engine out, but the head can be taken off relitivley easily with the engine in.

ahh never realised that. I thought you couldnt get the timing chain cover off hence why the changing of finger followers was such a pain in the bum.

Yeah, i have done it twice now (within a week), first time due to a worn follower and second due to a dropped shim straight after rebuild, the pulley is a bd and its very tight but it is possible.

I've mentioned it's possible a few times but I bow down to twice in one week!

I was really not ammused but it was worth it to find the shim sat there in the bottom without causing any damage (other than what the follower did to the valve retainer)

I have decided to go for a full rebuild and have decided to use Str8six for the work. I cant wait to have the Tuscan back on the road, but it will be about a month.

I don't need a rebuild, but my car (Cerb S6) is also in STR8SIX for a rebuild, RR upgrade, gearbox update and shocks.

Snap. My 2002 Tuscan S is in for a full rebuild at STR8six. Guess Jason's a busy boy.
