My speedo in my mk1 isn't working, I've just replaced the LCD dash and now that works fine it's just still a problem with the speedo, was before I touched it too. Any ideas what is causing the fault? Also the car beeps sometimes, why does it do this? Thank you in advance for anyone who can help smile

Probably the transducer, which picks up the signal from the diff/axle. These go reasonably often.

These are very expensive for what they are - about £100 fitted.

Any "Beep" should be accompanied by a warning - if its extremely short its probably an "EFI Fault", which means a number of things from needing the throttle balance sorted to the moon crossing the orbit of jupiter biggrin

check fuel levels - if its low mine beeps then warns me I only have 10 or less litres left. so on the way to the gargage it beep beep beep beep as it goes over bumps

the speedo sensor is "simply" a hall probe - if anyone has the specs I'm sure finding one for a fk of a lot less than 100 would be easy.

LOL Jim, yup it says EFI fault, how do i suss out the problem? I switched it on the over the weekend only to be greeted with two long beeps! Its normally the odd beep when driving but ... Its deffintly not the low fuel warning because i also know that irrating beep :P plus i had a full tank

Can anyone recommend a good site for picking up TVR parts? Like the bit i need for the speedo at the diff end? I hate not knowing anything about the car i own frown hoping to pick up as much info as possible from you guys

Yea.. I used to get that alot until the last service (12k) when the throttle bodies were balanced.. even if they are slightly out you will get this appearing (most people ignore it..)

The EFI fault does occur on certain car's after the car has been washed / heavily rained on due to water getting into certain area's (not sure where, but there's a thread or 2 about it..)

Search for Clevor Trevor on the web, they are probably the cheapest, but have a minimum order P&P charge.

Racing Green are very knowledgeable, so often worth the little extra.

If you can get the specs a hall effect transducer should be less than a fiver from Maplins.
