Hi,

I've got the bolt out of the end of my crankshaft but require a puller to remove the pully/ damper.

My A-Series fly wheel remover is the pefect size put I require some bolts to fit into the threaded holes in the damper to attach the puller to and drag the damper off.

Does anyone know what size these bolts are? I've tried a few that are sat around the garage, no joy.

I'll go but a selection tomorrow but if anyone knows, it will save me an ar$e on!

Cheers,

Richard.

If you know what bolts are used elsewhere you could hazard a guess whether it's metric or imperial which will just leave you a couple of variations in size/pitch.

If you're starting from scratch then a wooden dowel or similar offcut screwed into the hole will pick up witness marks that you can use to get the thread pitch. You should be able to get a pretty good idea of the major diameter from the exposed end of the thread, and you can measure the minor diameter. Given the pitch and diameters you should be able to guess which thread it is.

It's a Tusan, MY 2000. Engine is still in. I'm need to fit a new scavenge pump chain, I'm seeing how far I can get without removing the engine.

I've worked out the bolt size, bought 1 of all that look roughly correct at the local shop. Sadly the correct one doesnt have the size marked on it. I'll work it out, buy another 2 and post the size here.

Thats for the suggestions, I'll keep the post up to date on progress.

Cheers,

Richard.

3/8" UNF

If your scav chain has broken it will have broken for a reason maybe consumed something so engine out is best way

I just had to remove the bolts form the engine mounts and drop the engines a few inches to get the long bolt out the end of the pully. It comes out really easily then.

I've got a puller and some correct bolts now, I've cleaned the threads out with a tap and attached the puller.

The pully's not off yet as it's really tight, however the puller fit's on really well and it would be no easier if the engine was out the car.

I ran out of time this evening but will continue Thursday, should have the pully off then.

Cheers,

Richard.

Loads of force usually needed to remove, make sure you use the full 3/8" UNF thread to avoid stripping, also likley to deform the puller if its a lightweight.

Thats the same puller as I'm using.

It's bent the long bolt a bit, I'm just waiting for my arther to arrive with a heavy hammer to shock the end with, then fingers crossed, it will be off!

Cheers,

Richard.

You're bringing back memories of student days gone by when I had a Landrover SWB IIA.

Used to have to work on it in the street. Rain, snow, sun.

BIG BIG hammer required.

Only dropped the car on my fingers once.

TBH you'd be best off getting the whole engine out incase you need to strip it down.

Keep us updated - with photos if possible.

Nearly sorted, everything is out/ off. Just need to get the finger follower shaft out, fit the new followers, get a new scavenge pump and put it all back together.

Another week or so, time permitting!

Cheers,

RIchard.

Today we tackled the removal of the pulley, was PITA
but is achievable with engine in the car.
We also removed the bolts to the engine mounts to gain enough clearance

we have one finger follower worn on the inlet by No-6 cylinder and possibly
a new cam to fit....Will keep you posted

Ive got some photos but dont no how to post lol...can email out if anyone wants
them
