Due to my clutch having decided to go tit's up the other month and also the weather, my car has been sat up since October with a trickle charger. I have started it a couple of times to make sure it is turning over properly.

Question is am I doing it more harm than good starting it and not running it. I hold the revs at about 2000 to keep the oil circulating as best I can.

Anyone else had there car sat up for a while and if so, what problems if any they encountered?

Moving components develop surface rust that then rubs against seals, causing leaks (e.g. shocks). Brakes seize, but probably no lasting damage. Tyres suffer. TVR's leak, meaning damp. Mice make homes, causing all sorts of electrical problems.

Most importantly, you forget what a great car it is.

Get it fixed and drive it biggrin

It's going on it's holidays to Blackpool to get fixed shortly, just worried after it having been sitting, the engine would have any problems since they run best getting used regularly.

Hi Steven,
I'm in exactly the same boat however, as mine had been laid up for @ 3 months prior to using it again, I experienced no problems at all whilst the car was on the road for approx 2 months, before the clutch slave seal finally gave in.
That said, since about the same elapsed period of time of you, mine's has also been laid up, with only the occasional turnover and moving of the car out of the garage, to stop the brakes seizing and tyres flat spotting, I've been really impressed by how the car starts, ticks over and all functions operate.
The proof will be when I bring the parts with me when I come back over to Scotland in March, to get them fitted at a garage in an adjacent village, to allow me to bring the car home.

Fingers crossed, and good luck,

Best regards,

James.
