Are there different 4.0l sp6 engine blocks ?
Discussion
Hi !
If you look at my other topic I started today about the auxilary shaft I have a question of how to replace the rear bearing for the auxilary shaft. When looking at some pictures I have of some SP6 engines it seems as my engine look different from the other engines This is what I can see is different:
1. The rear bearing for the aux shaft is on the end of the shaft and not between the two belts for power steering and alternator.
2. The starter motor is not on the side of the engine as it seems to be on the pics on other SP6:s.
3. The waterpipe that goes around the engine by the exhaust manifolds goes on the other side of the engine on mine, just below the throtles.
4. I have no drain plug for the oil in the oilpan.
5. I do not think I have a oildrain from the cams in the back of the engine, at least I have not been able to find it.
6. Is there more ?
On the engine head just above the no 1 exhaust port it is stamped:
SP6-043
AP-AL
Does this mean that this is engine 43 that is built ?

I have some old pics that I will try to use to show how it looks.
I have put the car together at the moment without changing the bearing as the noise I had isn´t there anylonger. I will try to change the bearing later on when the season for sports cars is at the end here in Sweden (mid october).

Hi Peppe
I have the same engine. You'll find the coil pack mount is different as well. You have an early SP6 engine circa 1999 or earlier. Many of the very early Cerb's with SP6's were fitted with this engine.
Apparently, this was the early days when higher quality components were used before they moved to cheaper India components. Many of this engines make it into the mid thirty thousand or higher miles before needing a rebuild.
When changing the aux shaft end bearing, be very careful to set the lateral movement / tension on the shaft as you can create tension (pull) on the inner engine bearing and damage it - engine out job! Happened to me.
Oh, mine is marked 051.

Check your starter motor cable connection, it looks like it could be braking down

Can that really be seen from the pictures or can you just 'feel' this engines pain!

And it performs well to. I came on second place at the Swedish TVRCC 0-60mph contest the past weekend, without the wheelspin I had almost all the way I think I would have won. The fun was that I beat my friend that has a Cerb 4.5 LW with short induction and Emerald ECU (420 Bhp on rolling road). I was 0.25 secs quicker. The car that where quicker than me was a 2006 Tuscan S conv, he beat me with 0.2 secs. There was some Chimaera and Griffith 500:s in the contest and they was beaten with 0.5 to 1.0 sec by me. Both Cerbs had the problem with spinning wheels so I think me and my friend need to practice some launch technics. The factory guys that did the rebuild on my engine think that I might have S spec parts in my engine since I have the ECU ship for a S spec engine, that might explain a little of the outcome of the contest.

Thanks for mentioning it though, that could have been a saver if it was a recent pic.
