It is my understanding (true or false?) that the most popular and trusted place for a rebuild is TVR Power, however what are the general experiences/feelings/opinions of alternatives such as STR8-SIX, Austec, Craft and the like?

Flood gates opened (I hope)

I don't think Craft are in business anymore. They were more all talk and no substance. But the other engine builders seem to be doing a good job and the SP6 might just be over all the early problems now.

Here's hoping

Power seem to well on top of the Speed 6 now even offering a 2 year warranty on all rebuilds. They are also developing a 4.3 build, which gives you some confidence in there knowledge.

Jason at STR8 SIX gets a big thumbup from me.

He re-built my old T350C and the engine was simply fantastic after he'd worked his magic plus various mods.

Yep me too, superb job and a very professional approach. He has a nice chain tensioner mod that works much better than the TVR effort and offers other advantages at the same time. But the best bit for me is that he does the engine disassembly, assessment and the rebuild himself. I wish I had known about him a few years ago.

I don't have personnal experience of TVR Power builds but I recently bumped into an old pal who had his T350 rebuilt there a year ago and he is very happy with the results to date.

Its a shame everyone associates the S6 rebuilds with "big bucks"

They dont need to cost the earth to rebuild correctly but with some S6 engine builders taking over 2000 GBP profit out of steel cranks (as an extreme example) I guess they always will.

Hey Ho.

Edited to add. The above is not an infrence that this rather sharp business practice is undertaken by JC.

Having felt both ends of the spectrum I agree - at Autocraft I was just presented with a bill. furious With JC I was shown the problem, offered different solutions based on different budgets/intended use etc, then the job was done for a good honest price IMO. clapclapclap If you rip customers off, they'll never come back and they'll tell other drivers too.phone The reverse is of course also true. So here's to some good old northern honesty, now practising down south.beer

RG, although unproven as yet, have a ggod reputation, skilled people and have invested a lot of time and money in research and development of replacement parts to increase the life and durability of the engine.

Also, you only lose the car for about a week as they have a stock of re-conditioned block so can perform the build without lose of your car, other than to fit and fettle the engine.

I hope there are no nay-sayers out there as this si where I am spending my hard-earned!
