So I had changed my HT leads (from Magnecor back to the originals to see if they were the cause of a missing under load - I think they were - they've been on 3 years). I thought that if the lead change didn't solve it I would swap the plugs ... so left the spark plug cover off for today's drive. I now know the cover is functional, not just dressing banghead At various times I was running on 3/4/5 and even 6 cylinders. Seems the cover keeps the leads from popping off the plugs. Luckily I only got as far as Marlow (4 miles). Stopped for lunch and had my brother bring the cover down to save more embarrassment smile

I can confirm the car does run on 3 cylinders, also creates a nice glowing cat with the unspent fuel doing nasty things down there. Hopefully no major damage done as only drove for a little bit like this, mostly just coasting to a safe stop.

Hey...

You sure it's not water getting down into where the plug sits, water heats up, turns to steam and pushes the cap off?? I had the same problem with an older car when changing over the bodywork to a new kit which exposed the engine bay - was driving me mental.

Cheers

Nope, dry as a bone. It the cover (or lack of).
