The dreaded tapping has started
Discussion
Hi all,
Just done a run to the big smoke from sunny birmingham......200 mile round trip.....didn't boot it, just a steady trip up and down the M40.
On the way back the engine starting tapping....increasing with revs....did stop and check oil level (all fine)
It's due a big service in a few months.....so preying to the man upstairs it's just the tappets that need adjusting.....however with 29k on the clock and no rebuild thus far is impending doon down the road?
No know faults...hardly uses any oil....about 250ml / 1000
Thoughts anyone?

if it's a loud tapping dont drive it, get it checked asap, could be a dropped shim or worse. If it's a quiet tapping but louder than normal, still get it checked asap. The fact your on here asking about it says it must be loud enough for you to be concerned.
Good luck and often it's not as bad as it may seem!

went from normal (nice ant quiet) to a distinct tapping....loud enough to hear with the roof and stereo on.
Random thought....in the TVR owners manual it states not to drive at a constant speed while the engine is "running in".....obviously my engine "is" run in.....but could this be the cause of the problem....anyone else found after a long steady motorway speed drive (my drive was 200 miles)....a problem had occured?

All Six speeds are 'tappy', I only really notice mine (~15k miles) when colder or if she's just been started.
What did u experience? Did it go from the normal sound to suddenly 'tappy'?
Just want to know what to notice when/if :P my time goes..

I only had the car since March and I`ve put about 3.5k miles on it.. so beleive me the engine is staying well oiled between runs :P Was a daily driver for all put the last few weeks.
Roll on the next house move, get myself a decent garage to get under/into the car
