Basically i think i need mine replacing as i cant seem to get the engine running sweet, its either to low on tickover but runs ok or turn up the tickover an the revs dont drop quickly enough and it runs crap.

Even after the last service it was ok for about 50mls then went back to its old tricks.

Can you get any from anywhere or are there any upgrades out there?? think mine are just a bit worn.

Cheers,kev.

Have you tried balancing the throttle bodies up and resetting the throttle pots on the old laptop.

Could be one or combination of things. May be that the throttle pots are worn, throttles arn't balanced, throttle cable is stretched......If your motor has done over 20000 miles, investigate the throttle pots first IMHO

Do a search on throttle body spindle bush/bearing type things on the T cars or S6 forums. Early S6 throttle body spindle bushes apparently wear out, I understand they can be fixed/exchanged.

We do a modified set on an exchange basis. The modification was adopted by the factory just before production stopped.

What's different about the newer design?

How much are they?

thanks guys,

i have tried adjusting them and had then balanced, also had the cable checked, basically the right butterfly next to the trottle has to be totally slack on the adjuster for the engine to run ok,the only problem is that it seems to make it stick so i have to crack it off on the pedal when i start up.

after this it runs ok but its too low on idle,if i turn up the idle it stops sticking but runs crap as i explained before, also occationaly the revs stick quite high and i have to floor the pedal really quickly too free it off.

im not sure if my local main dealer had it on the laptop but i explained the problem to them and it was running fine for a while after it was serviced but then got back into the same routine after about 50mls or so.

Str8Six are just upgrading the throttle bodies on my Tuscan.
I have had some tuning issues and so while Jason has my engine out, I mentioned this.
He explained that the stainless steel shafts create wear in the aluminium throttle bodies, and that no amount of tuning can remove this problem. Every time you touch your throttle the shafts settle in a slightly diffferent position. The wear also results in the engine being very noisey due to the flaps vibrating at idle.
You can check for wear by touching the flaps at idle (with filter box removed)and hearing a considerably reduction in engine noise. Also you can move the shafts at the spring loaded mounts between the bodies.
The mod requires the machining of the bodies to allow roller bearings to be pressed in and so hopefully a permanent fix.
Looking forward to getting her back and "feeling" the results.

When you say flaps do you mean the butterflies??

Sorry, Yes butterflies.
It costs 600 quid plus VAT.

Unfortunately, I am travelling at the moment and so wont pick my car up until the week before Easter so cant comment on the expected improvement. But I believe (maybe hopeful is a better word) this is going to prove a very good mod.

So never let the engine at idle speed, only full throttle = no wear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't someone do nylon bushes for this mod, sure I've seen them on a car might have been Tony (T66ORA) on his old Tuscan confused. Got to be more economical shirley as 100 squid per body can't be much different to brand new replacements from a big manufacturer like Jenvey let alone an exchange priceconfused

I would have thought its a bit hot in there for nylon.
My understanding is that new ones are not available and these are not exchange they upgrades of your existing units.

We tried roller bearings as our first attempt to cure the problem of wear on the shafts but found that it did not have the desired effect. The factory also tried roller bearings and came to the same conclusion.

My understanding is that its not wear on the shaft but the shaft wearing the cast aluminium body of the throttle body.
My Tuscan is an early one which has no bushings in the bodies. The shafts are like the proverbial censored in a shirt sleeve. Hence tuning issues.
I know TVR later introduced bushings to prevent this wear in the bodies, not for the shafts.
What wears out the shafts ?

On your exchange bodies, what do you do in the body itself ? do you stay with the original bushings and if of the old style, introduce the bushings.
Are you getting new bodies cast ?

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of that - any more details David? I knew about Dreadnought's refurb option (scooterscot) and it is something I think I am going to have to do at some point. However, the more options, the better...

Cheers
