Hi,

I`m wondering if the S6 needs a device that modifies the rev's if it detects the engine is cold.

Technically this is something that can be done with a little bit of know-how and engineering but mostly its…
  • Micro-Solenoid to slightly adjust the idle.
  • A small micocontroller to sense oil temperature and adjust solenoid.
  • A few DIP (small) switches to set the cold idle increase.
Surely it would help with cold idling, increase the oil pressure (by maintaining a constant RPM) and reduce stalling the car.

Would such a project be something people would like to see or want?

I`ve yet to get my Sagaris but I`m keen not to have it stall when its cold..

A fellow PH-er has informed me that with a 'correctly' set-up car it won`t be required smile

Come on then, spill the beans!
How does one get the car setup 'properly'?

Take it to a good garage smile or adjust the idle manually..

Not sure what you think the problem would be? Cold idle is a little lumpy (and clattery!) but mine has never stalled. Some suggest using your foot to raise the revs for a few seconds to get some oil flow (I don't) or, as mentioned, the dealership can adjust the idle if it is a problem.

Also, you haven't even got it and you are worrying about it? Are you sure you have the right temperament (i.e. a strange sense of humour) for a tiv? hehe

is there no way a cold start function could be mapped into the standard ecu?

Correct me if i'm wrong cos i usually am, but surely the ECU can adjust idle to compensate for different driving conditions as in any other car?? If so a cold start function mustn't be impossible?

I'd left my car (garaged) for three months at started it at -2C last December. It was a little lumpy but started first time and only needed a little extra gas after that.

As far as I`m aware the ECU can adjust the fuel/air mixture but the actual RPM of the engine is controlled by a small nut that has to be manually adjusted.

My idea was to automate this somewhat with a small microprocessor to test the oil temperature and adjust the RPM as required.

However, most people have said this is totally unnecessary and if the RPM's are too low you can modify the speed (via the small nut) manually..

Or your right foot pedallywink
Seriously though I can't see the point in introducing any form of complexity into any system if it isn't needed, and sitting with the revs held at 1500 rpm for 30 seconds or so on start up will get the oil moving and generate enough temperature that you shouldn't have to worry about stalling when moving off.

Get it serviced by heath or paul at x tvr works and you wont need to worry it will tick over just beautifully just like mine does.

mine has been getting progressively worse on start up when cold to the point where it now needs a moderate amount of revs for 3-5 seconds before it is prepared to idle normally

Even after running for 20 minutes though the idle is a little rough,... (lhs exhaust seems to be showing a slight misfire)

just taken it for a service (dont have it back yet), but the suggestion given was that the throttle pots need sorting.......

At most services I think they clean the throttle pots and adjust the idle, its one of those 'common' things they do..
