I know it has been said before but the humble comma has a lot to answer for. Just look at the unlimited mileage between Jan and Marchwink

Does anyone know what TVR Power's FULL rebuild entails....is it Top end and Bottom end ...or just a name for Finger Follower replacement and the associated engine dismantle to acheive it ???

I can understand that once you have an engine out and in bits, it makes sense to replace fault prone elements but which are essential, desireable or nice to have????

A full rebuild should include pistons as well and that starts to put up the price...

Why would you replace the pistons if they are undamaged and not worn ? if they are in good condition and the cylinder bore has not been machined its a waste of money ?
It seems to me(and this is just an opinion) that a few of these s6 'specialist'engine rebuilders are doing very nicely at the minute with these full rebuilds......if we werent talking about an S6 engine and i had an engine that developed a top end rattle i would overhaul the top end ...not a full engine rebuild. i know its not that simple with the brilliant (but slightly flawed) S6 but i get the feeling we are all getting slightly ripped because of our paranoia

If everyone has managed to climb back onto their seats then Glow Worm might get an answer from someone who knows. No one said start replacing pistons, the question is what is on offer for £4500. Is it a top end rebuild or do you get any more for your money?

All Tvr Power rebuilds include removal of engine full strip and rebuild re-install engine, run in for 1000 miles come back to tvr power 1k service F.O.C,all you pay for is oil and filter.

Mine came out of Power, 500 or so miles ago and the engine it has to be said sounds superb and is behaving itself impecably at the moment.

Took the car out Christmas Day and Boxing Day on pointless errands just to listen to her. Can't wait to get it up the rev range a bit when further run in and oil changed.

So thanks fellahs, and here's hoping that my next visit (1000 mile service) is my last for a long long time.. no offencethumbup

i'm 4500 miles post (Power) rebuild, and the engine seems to be getting stronger. i'm just starting to give it decent blasts at full throttle and it feels great.

my advice was to keep it under 3k revs for the 1st 1000 miles and the check up/ oil change, then 'drive it like i nicked it'.

Try and get hold of a copy of a later S6 handbook. The running in advice in there is very good.

Apart from the obvious contradiction in these two statements, is it possible that the "claimed" reliability on re-builds is in a large part due to re-built engines being treated with kid gloves, i.e "Yeah, my my re-build is totally reliable.. obviously I don't drive it hard in case it blows up..."?

No not at all, just treat the engines as advised by the manufacturer, service them well, and the later engines will in most cases give a relible account of themselves.
