Just had a very enjoyable weekend in the Cotswolds with the good lady and the motor! However, as its the first time its been used this year since it got cold and wet a few little questions have arisen.

Firstly, when I started it up on Saturday and Sunday morning (it had been parked outside as opposed to the garage) after literally 2 or 3 seconds, (I believe) steam began bellowing out of the bonnet. This lasted for about 5 seconds then as quickly as it appeared it disappeared. Now I can't believe that after been left out in the rain overnight, a cold engine can boil water that quickly!! So what is causing this. Anyone have any similar experience?

Secondly, when the engine starts there is a screeching notice. Not in the same level of the Rover SD1 Clarkson had a few weeks back in Top Gear but similar. It is noticeable if you rev the engine slightly when its cold, but once warm does not happen anymore. Again, does anyone have any similar experiences.

On a more positive note, had a get weekend blasting round the Cotswolds even if it was very wet!! Particularly like the Fish Hill and the approach to it from Broadway.

Damp on the radiator being burnt off when radiator heats up.

Belt slipping - again due to damp conditions.

I would say that too.
Don't worry about it been outside, my Chim lived outside for 3-4 years and my Cerby 7 years and both have had no problems with that at all, just needed cleaning a bit more.

Yep, perfectly normal. And try starting up after you've washed it - same thing will happen.

I like it - impresses the neighbours....... Well, starts the commenst about when it will blow up. Heathens.

Normal. It's water on the exhaust manifold. Amazing how quick these components heat up...

If it's after a few seconds then it's steam from water on the manifold. If it's after a few mins and smells like a bonfire then it's from leaves falling down the gaps in the bonnet, not your car bursting into flames so (note to self for future smile) no need to panic.

I've just experienced the same thing today. The car had been in the garage (unused) for three months. Started up (first time) and some steam came off as she warmed up.

Also, sailed through the MOT today.
