Just taken cam cover off to check tappets as one of them seems a bit noisy and have noticed witness marks on the cam cover from the chain hiting it.

Does anyone know where the adjusters are as I believe there are two and does the front cover need to come off.

This might also explain why at above 5000 revs I sometimes get a noise like ball bearings down the exhaust pipe as it could be the noise of the chain hitting the cover.

there is two adjusters at the front of the engine, bottom somewhere, often the nylock nuts on the adjusters need replaced too. Well at least when mines been adjusted they have. Reckon every 6K they need need a tighten.

Which way are they adjusted, clockwise or anticlockwise to tension them.

Many thanks for the info just taken the bonnet off to get a better look and there are two, from past posts you need to turn anticlockwise but how much?

Anyone have more info?

Hi !

I am also interested in how hard you should tension the chains. It must be a certain torque that should be used on the tensioner, is it somebody that knows what torque it should be ?

I have slakened the locking nut and just turned about an 1/8th" cannot see that it would need to be torqued as it is very free to rotate.

It actually pushes on a metal tensioner across the chains, hopefully this should stop the chains hitting the cam cover.

I have not adjusted the lower adjuster.

Please keep us informed, I am sure their are plenty of people that want to know how to tension the chain, I do for one, and will keep an eye on this thread.

Hi Shifty !

On my SP6 it is not possible to rotate the the upper tensioner. It is possible to turn it a little bit and if you push very hard it is possible to turn it a little bit more. With the rocker cover off you can feel that the chain is getting very hard tensioned if i push hard on the keywrench. A chain that is to hard tensioned might eat up the wheels it runs on and some bearings and in the valve and chain mecanism , at least that is what i am afraid of.
I have tried to get to the lower tensioner but i think it is impossible to do without taking the car apart, so i haven´t done any adjustmets on the lower one.
