What sealant is applied to the cam cover, i.e. instant gasket etc.

I want to remove and powder coat and probably will check the tappets at the same time. But before I do I want to make sure I have the correct sealant to put back together again.

I just used normal silicon sealant from DIY stores, Arnold Laver as it happens, worked great for me, and cheap, it smells like it has got ammonia in it.

Many thanks I will go to local motor factor tommorow, Kevin are you still doing the carbon fibre cam covers, possibly after one with blue speed six lettering.

Hi SHIFTY that was me with the cam cover inserts. What colour blue do you want. I have plain and black in stok at the moment. Colours are special order only.

Mail me if you want to follow it up outside this forum?

normal silicone sealant contains ammonia which can react with the metal. Any bodyshop supplier should be able to supply non-ammonia based.

You really shouldn't use silicone on anything that could come into contact with oil.

I've had a nagging oil leak problem with the cam cover. I've come to the conclusion that you must leave the silcone to set before starting the engine. I think the oil / air pressure though low blows small holes out in the sealant if not cured.
