I have recently purchased a 2001 Tuscan Red Rose and just wondered what the differences are between this engine and a std Tuscans?

Also, what are the differences between the 4.0 S6 in the Sagaris and the 4.0 S6 in the Series 1 Tuscan? Presummably the Sagaris engine is the better one to have?

Thanks

Apparently...

Tuscan: 360 hp (268.5 kW), 310 ft.lbf (420.3 Nm)
Tuscan Red Rose: 380 hp (283.4 kW), 310 ft.lbf (420.3 Nm)
Tuscan S (pre-2003): 390 hp (290.8 kW), 310 ft.lbf (420.3 Nm)
Tuscan S (post-2003): 400 hp (298.3 kW), 315 ft.lbf (427.1 Nm)
3.6 L: 350 hp (261 kW), 290 ft.lbf (393.2 Nm)

There's lots of debate as to the above spec depending on year, model, aftermarket or factory build and a whole load of other stuff!

Oh, and check out this thread for a whole debate on the Red Rose Spec'd Tuscan.

Can I ask a question that may sound a bit silly?

Whats better when looking at engine reliability going forward.

Having a 05-06 car or haveing an 01/02 car with an engine rebuild done done in 2005 for example.

What i guess i'm asking is, when an engine gets rebuilt, do they use considerably more different/upgraded parts than the origional manufacturers spec?

I think it all depends on your budget...

Some people will buy a 2000/01 car for about £15k and put £5-7k to the side in case of engine rebuild and new clutch. If it does need one then you'll have spent around £22 for a totally sorted car with a new engine build. Also it depends what needs to be rebuilt. A full engine can cost a lot more than just the top end rebuild (cams, valves, etc).

Or you could get a well looked after 2001 model with a 1 year warranty, about 18-20k miles on the clock and if anything goes wrong the dealer could sort it out for you. I guess it all depends on your budget.

You could buy a 2005/06 car for £35k and the engine could blow up the next day or a 2000 model that never misses a beat! Best thing to do is go in with eyes open, know all the facts and be able to put some cash aside just incase. I've owned two Chims in the past (one had quite a few problems) and will be getting a Tuscan in the next few weeks - the horror stories still won't put me off. People usually only post when it's all doom and gloom - there are loads of cars out there who have never had any problems!

Just realised I didn't answer your last question - I think it depends where you get the rebuild done. Most of the time they will replace the problem parts with upgraded/newer versions.

Hope this helps!

I bought a 2000 Tuscan late last year and straight away had a full rebuild.
I got the Tuscan for less than 14k and have spent another 12k on it this year.
I heard a number of different descriptions with regard what materials and upgrades.
Some information given was with regard where existing parts in the engine were from.
For example the man said "youve got the GOOD early forged in the UK con rods" and not the later
and cheeper Indian ones they started to use (no offence to Indian forgers).
As far as valves, guides, bearings etc I was told that the rebuild would have much higher spec/quality parts than the normal TVR parts and so I expect a longer life from my rebuilt engine.
For information, my engine was rebuilt by TVR at 35000 miles and I have just had it done again at 70000 miles.
