The sag is due for a service shortly, and one of the indie's has said they would only take out 50% of the engine oil on the service ( low mileage 2 year old ). Is this normal or what ?

With a dry sump system in the SP6 that fairly normal.

I am a strong believer that this is one of the contributory factors for SP6 failures, (after all, half the old contaminated oil is still flowing around the engine).

My local specialist undoes the dry sump nut on the side of the block (under the filter) and drains the whole system and I then get the oil all changed and I would insist they do the same.

And thats what any good indy or reputable dealer will do. If your indie advises they will leave half the old oil in, walk away..It reflects their attitude to sevicing - half ars#d

I decided to change the oil in my Tuscan and did so at the weekend. On removing the drain plug from the oil tank just under 4 litres came out. After some advice from other PH's I removed a couple of other drain plugs and through a combination of jacking the rear of the car up and syphoning out the remainder I managed to remove around another 3 litres of oil. So the quick way does indeed only get around 1/2 the oil out.

It was a bit more work for sure but I wanted to change all of the oil. Any garage that did not do this should not be trusted is my view!

My indie managed to remove 8 litres on the last service.
Prior to this I phoned my 'main dealer' and asked if I could take my own oil for a 12k service, asked how much - 6 litres was their reply!
If you think you're getting all the oil changed you may be wrong. I have been told it is only possible to fully change the oil during a rebuild which is rather ironic.curse

I have started having an additional oil change between services, last time it cost me £60 at Automedon, a good indie will do it in 30 mins....well worth the money in my opinion especially before winter when I'll be using the car less ('cos I've nearly used up my insurance mileage limitation).
