I am looking for a T350 so have been doing some research on them to help me buy a decent one. I basically found that its best to buy a 2004 onwards because the newer speed six engine seems more reliable. But my budget has just been slashed down to 20k so looks like I might have to go for a 2003 model. So does any one know the differenc between the 2003 and 2004 engines and how much it will cost to upgrade to 2004 spec? Thanks

I don't think you will pinpoint changes that precisely.

Personally I would either buy as close to new as you can or buy on the overall condition of the car and keep a fixing fund just incase if any engione probs arise.

i have a 2003 engine and its on 22,500 miles with no problems, from new it had the upgraded internals and is still fine, i think 2003 is the year when the changes took place first and any dealer will be able to tell you when inspecting a car before you purchase, get the check done or make sure its had a rebuild, then go buy and enjoy

TVR would not admit to any specific engineering upgrades, even when I was buying new in '03/'04. I know they changed suppliers of components a few times. I think some of the details will remain a mystery; engine builders will no doubt spot some changes as time goes by, if there were any physical differences in components, but changes (if any) may have been to grade of metal & treatment used. Best test remains how long each model year's engines last rolleyes

Spot on thanks for the help, my hunt for a T350 is going to start as soon as my garage is complete. When I get one im going to get that 12 month gold tvr warrenty also so I will have to get it checked out anyway. Is there a contact number to phone to get that arranged?

Not sure if there is a number but any TVR dealer should be able to arrange this for you and do the checks and any work needed to make it eligible for warranty. I use Hexham Horeseless Carriages and they take care of it all for me.

Had some news today that the valve stems were apparently phosphor-coated from '04 on to further extend their life, chilled iron cams fitted rather than sintered, slight mod to head gasket, otherwise same design and components.
So very similar to earlier engines.

Unless Mr. J.R. is able to add anything...? phone

Valve spring tension reduced, thus less wear on the guides, due to the valve gear alignment issue. Valve shims popping out of the retainer still an issue it seems.

The only real change was the cams and the finger fallowers, there were many changes of suppliers and hardening of the materials.
