I've got a Tuscan 2 and it really does shift however, I've been exploring some engine modifications to make it quicker - any suggestions out there to improve perforamance and approximate costs?

Yes you'll certainly get a big bang for little money, not sure that's the kind of bang he wants though.

i see it as a safe option. a modest 100 bhp of nos which probably would'nt get used that often due to the fact that it's pumped in under full throttle (tiv's often as not don't need full throttle as quicker machines are a bit thin on the ground) should be quite safe and a lot more economical than induction mods, exhausts, rebuilds, turbocharging, supercharging etc etc.
my cerb will be getting it at some point evil

I hope its not a speed 6 Cerb then....! Even a little use of NOS over a fairly short time will see your crank falling out.....and before that you will possibly hear the tell tale sounds.....bit like a plumbers toolbox in the back of a Transit van speeding over sleeping policemen... Oh then there is the clutch, the standard one will fry and the T5 gearbox internals will prematurely disintegrate...... There's more to it than just bolting on a kit, NOS or Forced Induction

oh it's a 6 alright. and as long as you don't get greedy with the nos it'll be fine.
i'd rather spend a grand on a half decent nos kit than countless thousands on forced induction.save the extra money for when the engine does go tits up - and they all do at some point modified or not.
what does that tuscan go like by the way? driving

I got a price to turbo charge the Tuscan - 10 grand, I didnt bother asking him about a super charger. He said without a shed load of engine modifications the engine would blow before I got home, so it looks like a no to the turbo. He did give me some other advise on how to improve the perfomance with a very small price tag, he advised me to apply some pvc stripes to both side of my car and stick a TURBO badge on the back - I think me may have been taking the p**s!

or maybe 4 10inch pipes hanging out the back (very saxo-esque)silly
10 grand is a lot of money to throw at an engine thats not the best to start with

The T5 is already at it's limit with a standard engine.
Hence why the Craft supercharged Speed Six is mated to the TKO600.
I switched my box too due to the potential increase in torque of the Craft rebuilt engine. I've heard of too many T5 boxes shred 5th gear!

Other option, that mine's in for soon, is Quaife uprated (and close ratio) set for the T5, which have been run without problems in drag racers etc with a lot more than 400lbft torque.

But then again they don't get as hot as would be the case on track days - heat is the real killer for 'boxes apparently - so I've de-catted as well which removes a huge source of heat from next to the gearbox. 5th gear is uprated spec running in proper bearings, unlike standard box.

Paul,
Who's doing your box?

Extra horse power and more importantly torque cost a lot of money. One add on leads to ten improvements.

I've got the kit, giving it to Autocraft along with everything else. Any competent garage could do it though; box needs a small amount of machining in a couple of places to give clearance for the beefier parts. Quaife supply diagrams.

Y18 - are you a little over-stressed in pursuit of your track fun?

Not really paul I am lucky enough to have a spare engine so it will all come good in its own time. Just need to get to Autocraft now.
