I have 2000 RR SP6 from my Tuscan which had done 18000miles when the finger followers gave up. I just wondered if anyone might have an idea of how much my old SP6 engine might be worth(that’s if anyone would want it)??? Its in need of usual head work i.e. Camshafts, finger followers, etc and will be sold with no ancillaries.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I guess for a shortblock you are looking at 2K to 3K, maybe slightly more as it's a RR so may have a steel crank. Rebuild price would be 4K to 6K.

Why are you selling it? What is replacing it???

Well....I'm picking it up from the garage next week. I'll have a look at it and decide if to sell it or not.

I've got a little "project" going with 500HP V8 being put in instead....should be finished in a couple of weeks!!

Thanks

Or a Huge V8.

I don’t really want to say too much yet, in case we encounter unforeseen problems but the engine is in! Just the rest of gubbins to attach, hopefully won’t be too expensive either! We’re hoping to use some of SP6 ancillaries to keep the costs down too. Only chassis mod is 4 holes drilled and sleeved. Also, have stuck with the T5 gearbox just to see how long it lasts, will probably go eventually but if not then you save a shedload of time and money!!

Will let you all know more next week……….when she’s started!!!eek

Yes , I think you are right , I am thinking of taking the 8K mile engine out of my T350 but wouldn`t expect more than £3000 for it.

A speed 6 engine is worth no more in running order than it is not running unless it is being sold by a reputable speed 6 engine builder with a years warranty.

Having said that a speed 6 engine with a billet crank is worth £2500, without £1500 private.

Cobblers - who made you the oracle on how much they go for. A warranty mean nothing - especially with the company stuffed. If the engine was heard running then you could saw it would go for more than a non runner (maybe) or one that is obvious damaged.

You do post some nonsense at times Jellison. Read the mans post, he does not proport to be an expert, what he posts is common sense - warranty by engine builder (not TVR).

Not reading the whole bloody thread just the last comment - which sounds like cobblers - what has a reputable speed 6 engine builder got to do with the price of an engine is it is running or not. If it sounds fine - he is no more aware if it will go bang tomorrow than the next man!!!! Warrantys are largerly a waste of time - would never have one (mind if I had an SP6!!)

No different to selling a working RV8 - if it sound good in the car then a buyer will give a good price - make no difference if the same car is heard running at a dealer / specialist - if it sounds good it sounds good andymore than that and it would have to be stripped.

I know you love the 6.......

I am no oracle on speed 6 values Jellison, I am going on the values at the breakers!

With regards to, if an engine is worth the same running as not running, I still think the value is the same unless you purchased a refurb from say Austec, Craft or Power with a warranty

Its not - well apart from getting the best Holley (Shleby 715cfm Special rebuilt as new for it) and new Victor junior High rise manifold.

Have to get the TR4 engine back in and sold! Way to much on - TR6 to MOT run in, rolling road setup, test before first racer too!
