I am considering buying a 2004 tuscan, i believe it to be of the updated spec to those previous, the car has less than 10,000miles on the clock and has had no major work carried out. How many miles would you expect from a 2004 spec engine before it would start to need light or major work? thanks

Now that's the million dollar question! Later cars are supposedly better but outside of rumor and hearsay there is no solid evidence to confirm this.

The only thing that can be said for sure is that it boils down to how well the engine was put together at the factory and the quality of the component parts installed at the time.

Hopefully the car you're looking at is a goodun but there's no real way of telling. Just make sure it's been looked after properly to minimize your chances of trouble.

and how it's been driven since built. Long periods of idling = lack of oiling to the top of the engine = wear.

Personally I would get an experienced speed 6 mechanic to take off the cam cover and inspect the top of the engine, if all ok, with only 10K on the clock, IMHO you have another 10K miles easy, after that good luck!

cheers
