Speed six unleashed
Discussion
As an unashamed fan of the Speed Six (my last two cars have been S6 powered) I've always wondered what it sounded like with little or no silencing. Now I know.

for those of you who haven't seen it the above clip can be found at pistonheads tv. What a sound! What an engine! (it won GT races by the way beating Porsche and Ferrari several times).
Somebody please, please tell me who prepared these race engines?

FAO the pits. Nice sentiments in your post, but not really true!
There were some wins in British GT in 2004 and yes there was one class win in the fog at Spa in 2005, but apart from that none of 3 the cars that ran in total in the British GT and the FIA GT were really a threat to anything, because of reliability. That was the same story with Le Mans.
As for the noise: yes it sounds like a Speed 6 at times, because it is, but is it a nice noise? It's just noise!
Who built them? Didn't John Ravenscroft do the engines and John Reid the race team?

Not quite sure what's untrue if they actually did win, which they did.
I think winning at Spa, fog or no fog (surely irrelevant - the TVR had no possible advantage due to fog?) was incredible, beating GT goliath Porsche fair and square for a fraction of the budget. The win at spa was also an outright win, not just a class win too.
The LNT cars were increasingly quick throughout the season and I remember feeling gutted that LNT couldn't get his cars to Le Mans as I think they could have placed well in class. A lot of credit is due to LNT for getting the cars to be competitive, but they were competitive and I for one wished he'd stuck with TVR and not switched to Panoz (even though it's obviously been great for the team and I'm sure they have no regrets!). I know looks don't count for much in racing (just look at the Panoz for starters) but the TVR was the best looking car on the grid in my eyes, particularly sensational in racing purple le mans livery.
Moreover, the TVRs were actually restriced more than their rivals because they didn't pass as a production model, therefore in my eyes their achievement was all the more incredible.
As for your inability to appreciate THAT noise, well each to their own. I think it's fabulously ferocious and I'm very proud to have a le mans car engine in my road car and so should you be with a name like RedTuscan!

The Six is a cracking sounding engine. I have the TVR sports exhaust and it sounds just bloody fabulous....so there.

Who specced, prepped and built those engines has been mentioned several times on ph, but nobody ever actually wanted to listen, ho hum. Daftlad aint as daft as his name though!
As to *why* they sound so good, well that's down to pretty much one bloke and he is very rarely mentioned, partly because he's a rather like JR and quite a shy bloke and partly because those who do know him dont talk much about him in public. All the recent influx of ex TVR workers know who he is though.

Cryptic bullshit nonsense....
Do you actually have anything interesting and factual to add or is this just another of your smug "I know but can't tell you" waste of cyberspace posts?
I'd have to say though that the SP6 race cars sound blinking awful .. very loud I agree, but a tuneful exhaust note? never!

It was due to go upto Joolz at Trackcar this month as I've put about 2000 miles onto the rebuilt engine. The car though is back in Salisbury having a clutch issue resolved as we speak so that's delayed the process a little. Can't wait to get it on the rollers and tuned up because the pull from the engine feels amazing. Once the clutch glitch is resolved - they were putting an endoscope into the gearbox to check exactly what was going on I believe - then I'll take her north for the remap. I'll post the results afterwards.
All the best

I *have*. Several times previously in fact!
Daftlad is having his engine fun *done* by the blokes who have been mentioned. Hell, even in the last frigging "who's fault is the S6 rant/rave/argument" thread the specific names were mentioned and then ignored and even when one of the ex workers said "yep, they were the only guys he'd trust to know about the engine properly" he was ignored!
I mean christ on a frigging stick, talk about bashing heads against a brick wall...and then you wonder why some ppl explicitly *dont* want to be mentioned in public! Do you blame them?
I swear most of you lot wouldnt be happy till you had JR's sodding phone number so you could all try and bend his ear despite his explicit statements of wanting bugger all to do with TVR again.
