Oops - 4,000 miles without post-rebuild oil change....
Discussion
Hello
Let's just say, for argument's sake, that I owned a Tuscan whose engine was rebuilt at 5,000miles.
And, again, let's just say that - a year / 4,000 miles later - I was still running the same oil......
How worried should I be?
If I get it properly serviced ASAP will I already have done irreperable damage?
Thanks,
S

If you've been thrashing it then its likely that you'll have reduced the durability of the engine it may fail again sooner than it would have otherwise.
Get it changed ASAP and ask the dealer to analyse the oil for you. If there's lots of metal particles in it then you'll have problems. If not, no worries.

Thanks for the feedback.
It was a hypothetical question in advance of buying a car - it looked like that all-important service had been missed.
Its academic now, as:
1: the car is now sold, and
2: it turned out that the service HAD been carried out after all.
Oh well. At least I know for next time.
