My Tusc S has finally given up the ghost. No compression, plenty of smoke and a loud tapping noice as I pulled off the M1 after a long burn on Sunday. B*ll*x! I fancy taking in to Austec but I was told they charge a hefty up front fee (£2k+). Is this normal? Do others do the same?

Look dude I feel sorry for you been there too, but this sort of post is getting damned boring....It's bound to open up the same old damned arguments and scorn. However for sake of helping you out.....

In my opinion the real key players capable of doing this work properly are few.....do your homework and read up on the issues with the S6...its all in here, if you're mechanically minded you should understand it. Phone around the key players and ask the pertinent questions then make your mind up which one suits your budget and your plans for the car in the future. I know there are plenty of wallet fitting options from one of them, but it will cost you approx the same no matter where you go if you want the work done properly.

Good luck

G

Truth is - we don't know where the best place for a rebuild is!
I am in the search too now.
So any posts about service and outcome from any of the the expanding numbers of centres rebuilding Speed Sixes would be useful!

I'd suggest you talk to Austec yourself rather than going on speculation. I've certainly never paid up front for any work I've had done by them, only afterwards, nor has anyone else I've spoken to.

Steve.

I've had to put a deposit down on work with Austec, I understand, from my limited knowledge, that this is a new policy.

I would certainly recommend the good advice to chat to them about your requirements though.
