I've recently had the cooling system mod carried out by TVR Power on my early T350c which replaces the existing expansion tank with an almost identical sealed unit (a brass cap seems to be in place where the existing cap used to be) which then is connected to a new expansion tank mounted higher up with the blue cap on.

I had this mod due to the engine needing a rebuild after cooling problems and then even after an engine rebuild and new radiator I was still having problems with the cooling system (loosing water through cap but not reporting overheating on dash as was common prior to the rebuild).

It took me a while to master the art of checking the water level before the mod and working out the correct level to fill to (everyone seems to have their own opinion on this). Now with the new mod it seems to be much easier to check the levels, you can actually get to the tank cap without having to climb into the engine bay and you can even see inside the tank to know what level it is at! I can finally do away with my two wooden coffee stirrers taped together contraption which I used previously!

The only question I have now is where do I fill the new tank to? I've only just checked the water since getting the car home from TVR Power and I can't see any water in the new tank at all!? Any suggestions?

Cheers!

pretty much the same as my Saggy, if I fill the expansion bottle as others have suggested it only dumps the water. My level tends to settle with nothing in the expansion tank and approx 10mm below the brass cap.

Oh ok, so you aren't supposed to see water in that tank... In that case, how the hell do you check the level? Do you have to remove the brass cap? Or do you fill it until you see water coming up the tube and then let it blow off any excess?
