I am stripping a sp6 down and have noticed straw colouring at the front of the cams and the chain, also the nylon/plastic chain slipper at the top has burnt. The main overheating area is the nearside cam front.

Has anybody had or seen this? is it inherent? is it an oil starvation
area?

The standard engine suffers oil starvation to the exhaust cam, period.... The feed comes up on one side of the block only and feeds the inlet cam first...eek Considering oil is also used as a cooling medium one would have thought it would have perhaps at least fed the exhaust side first scratchchin. By the way the AJP6 had 4 oil feeds to the head 2 dual feeds either side of the block so that both cams were fed with cool(er) fresh(er) oil. However I have not heard of before, what you describe in this location. By nearside (curbside) I am assume you mean the exhaust side of the engine?

From your brief description and without seeing it, I would speculate that it's the front bearing on the cam....but I stress this is a best guess. May I suggest that you contact one of the indies and discuss your findings. But I think that they will perhaps want to see the parts for themselves. Posting up pictures may trigger a better response on the forum, however it may likely also promote further speculation.

Good luck

Thanks for that YZF. Yes the overheating is on the outlet cam front. The engine I purchased was a 2001 49 weeker built by Tom (TC stamped in the block with his name in pen wrote on the head under the cam cover) and when inspected there was no wear what so ever on the followers at all, although the head gasket I think has gone (not got that far down yet). Its rather interesting seeing the Hemi AJP6 stripped down and am suprised at how well built the casing is. The point about the oil ways YZF is very interesting and I can see what you mean the outlet cam is the last port of call on a long jouney for the oil.

I have spoken to Craft who are willing to stage 2 the head and exchange the block with all the mods, I will of course be signing on the line as to not disclose the mods in any way shape or form.

Looking forward to next year now to start to rebuilding my Hemi CWW6 engine, (CWW= Craft,Whitwell,Walker.

Wondering what colour the cam casing should be.

Thing i do just to keep up with them bloody sagaris's laugh

Just to add i am looking forward to getting it stripped down to the crank as i have been informed that some engines were built with billet cranks, never know your luck?

Interesting I never knew it had hemi chambers. I understood the H/G's went(generally) due to too soft washers being used until it was spotted (bad parts) and harder washers used.
Good luck with the rebuild and keep us informed. In particular if you get more grunt!
