Driving normally with air flow, my water temp is between 70 (cold day) and 85 (hot day) and oil tends to be 10 degrees cooler than water which I'm told is about right. But when I'm in slow moving traffic or stationary the temp shoots up to 94 (occasionally 96) and fans come on No. 1 first then No. 2 as I'd expect temp drops to about 90/92 and fans go off. Only to come back on in a few seconds and spend their time switching on and off pretty frequently. Oil temp. then starts to rise and I've seen at 92, then I start getting worried..I've read a few threads which tend to indicate this is all expected behaviour.
I just don't like it getting that hot, why don't the fans switch on earier and stay on longer dropping the temp down to say 80/85??, which is the temp. when the cars moving. My Chimaera behaved the same, until I changed the Otter switch for the Leven lower temp one. Can you do something similar on a Speed Six? and has anyone done it ?
I have heard of people installing an expansion tank to improve cooling, but changing the operation of the fans seems far more simple to a simple person like me.Any advice would be appreciated...Keith

I think trackcar solutions do a chip to kick the fans in earlier.
Just checked..yep..Tuscan 4 litre cooling kit (£65)

All your figures seem normal though.

92C is cloud9 optimum for your aluminium engine.

I appreciate 110C+ which is doesn't seem far away, but it is really. Don't worry.

Thanks for your posts..they're appeciated and very reassuring...but I'm still perplexed though...If 92 is optimum ..that only happens when I'm stationary...The engine is running at 70-80 when I'm moving...So how can both be optimum?? Or am I a little slow on the uptake....Keith

Dont beleive all you see with the electronic readouts.

Just installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge and the difference is from 2lb to 15lb

I'm gonna get this, seems a good idea as living in london traffic is unavoidable and not good for my cams or underbonnet heat.

Yes fair point; due to sensor position - in tank in airflow well away from engine - true engine oil temp only seen at standstill, was advice I got eventually from reliable source at TVR.

Now things are starting to make sense...that probably explains differing temp. readings between cars..say T350 and Tuscans..if the airflow is different...At least it's explaination...thanks
P.S. Thinking a bit more about it...Would that be true for both Oil and Water sensors though ??? Also presumbably the ECU changes the engine characteristics based the these sensor inputs...so is the ECU being mis-informed???

I think you need more worry beads!

Most of the sensors just give driver info on dash display, and water temp is direct from engine so is accurate. It would be even better if all the dash info was 100% accurate though!
