I've had my engine rebuilt in April (Cerbera SP6) and would like a little extra power.

Has anyone fitted NOS or a Supercharger to a SP6. If so who does it, what does it cost and how much power would I get?

Cheers

John

Autocraft have just completed the first supercharged SP6.
It's not simple and it's not cheap. But they're estimating 550+bhp.

Nitrous oxide systems make additional horsepower by allowing an engine to burn more fuel than it could normally do. Burning more fuel creates higher cylinder pressures that will push down on the pistons with greater force. This gives much more power!

Nitrous oxide cheap to install expensive to run..

Supercharging expensive to install cheap to run..

Both have same end result.

Nitrogen in the (Nitrous) being the exeption in that it absorbs heat and expands, therfore a hotter explosion which can (maybe) reduce the life of your pistons due to burning.

Just my thoughts of course.

Mark.

I agree, except for the nitrous=hotter argument. I think it's the opposite; nitrous oxide absorbs heat and reduces in-cylinder temperatures.

I can see your point of veiw on this being heat is absorbed yes

I guess the danger with Nitrous oxide is you can over cook the goose.

So who has installed NOS in a SP6?

I would not recommend either option without first properly sorting out the bottom end of the engine. The standard main caps are far too weak to cope with the additional horse power and torque. Then there is the clutch and gearbox both will be lunched real quick if not changed out for more capable kit. If you are serious about going down this route speak to Dave Davies at TVRCraft he should now be able to give you accurate cost and time estimates based on both options.

Apart from the PLOD aspect.... The main drawback with NOS is that the buzz is limited the contents of the NOS cylinder, where as the Supercharger is limited to the length of the road and your fuel tank....laugh but by ferk is it an expensive deal....

GO ON; YOU KNOW YOUR CAR WANTS IT......!

I was thinking of get Dom at Power to fit a supercharger once the design had been sorted by TVR for the 600bhp SP6 show car next spring.

But i wanted a quick fix to blow away the Lambo's on next year's South of France Tour.

But thinkng about it, were travelling on the Eurotunnel and their a bit funny about gas bottles.

500 is a more likely number - people always exaggerate until they hit a known set of rollers!

There's a little place in Salisbury that already have the design sorted and installed in one car....but you probably knew that.

I thought the supercharged s6 had already hit the rollers (the one out of the orange car) and exceeded both the figures being quoted?
Obviously, there's no guarantee that build was reliable in that form, but it certainly put out the power....

Not an engine guy but logically running a rebuilt engine on looonnnng journey with a lot more power might be risky until it's properly run-in.

Besides who cares in if the Lambo's burn you off. You be able to hear the Speed Six much better once they've gone.

You'll stand a far better chance of driving the TVR all the way home instead of smokin it and having to hitch a lift on a flat bed. Which is just not cool

...just MHO

The lambo Gallardo was fast top end - 190 on the clock.

But is wasn't any quicker than my Cerbera SP6 in a striaght shoot out. He couldn't lose me and he's spent £76K more than me!

Oh, I had tonnes of baggage and tools in the boot as well whereas he only had small boot.
