Just spoke to the garage - one of the cams is worn and the follower is bent. Bugger!

Anyway, bit of advice needed chaps

The warrantee company won't foot the bill as the cam is worn and not broken.

The engine was rebuilt 20 months ago at the factor at 19,000 miles. It's covered a futher 15,000 since then. I've just mail Jason at the factory for some suggestions.

So what are my options, apart from foot the bill myself?

Also, if I do foot the bill, ie new cams, followers and probably valve stems etc, who would be the best place to go to? I was thinking of putting different cams in?

Cheers
Rich

I'm biased but TVRCraft have newly designed followers and cams sitting on the shelves as I type.
Give Dave a call 01722 411118. The components are a step on from the standard TVR stuff.
all the best
Al.

Threads like this terrify me

A rebuild 20 months ago so thats about March 05 presumably about the time TVR said any new car will have a 3 year warranty, my thinking was always that when they anounced this they must of made vast improvements on quality of engine components to say they would give such a warranty...

I feel for you, I really do I am still waiting for mine back after a rebuild at the factory and that was 4 months ago...dread to think how long it would take now.....

Can I ask do you thrash your motor ?? I am trying to get a guage on the kind of use that would warrant an engine build after only 20 months..

cheers

To balance your quote out give Paul at Austec a ring too they do a similar thing with different sourced components.

I'd go back to the warranty company. Cams don't just wear there must have been some bloggage etc to cause the wear in the oil flow. The factory are always going to say there engines are going to last mopre than 20 months. Therefore you can use that evidenace against the warranty company, even though we all know there are design problems, TVR has never acknowldged them

Quick update.....

TVR haven't even responded to my mail, and also when I chased it on the phone, 'One year warrantee' was a very commonly used phrase! rolleyes

I've spoken to the Financial Ombudsman who recommended that I complained in writing to the warrantee company, which I did today.

Unfortunately if they don't agree to some form of cover for the cam and followers, I'm going to have to fund it myself. So - I'll be making a few calls to the engine specialists after that.

Fingers crossed though

Cheers Chris!

Spotted that on the main page last week actually - looks like a good bit of kit, although it's pretty pricey isn't it?

Is there a price released by Raceproved or Clever Trevor now for this?

I've not got around to ringing them for a price yet, no price on the adverts or website I can find.
Must do it tomorrow.

But this is just the rocker cover (albeit with additional oil feed & a pre lub feed prior to starting).

I think you might be right, £1200 ish for the full package was a figure I seem to recall being mentioned at one point. I think that's a little steep to be honest so hope it will be sub-£1K at least.

I think another option could be the Oil Feed Upgrade provided by one of the specialists for £120 + vat.

Quick update for my little motor - looks like a top end rebuild and upgrade. I've been talking to a few places and two so far clearly stand out in terms of responsiveness and knowledge.

Really impressed - just need to work out how to afford it!

I'm not exactly sure what the process is, although if you give Dave a ring at TVR Craft, I'm sure he can elaborate a bit further thumbup
