Hi,
I currently own a V8S which is fantastic. However I seem to spend ages looking at all those shiny new models on Classifieds (so do many others looking by the number of views!) and I'm very tempted to upgrade sometime next year.
I can't even decide which model to go for as they are all so appealing (and similar). So far I've been certain I'm going to get:
Cerbera (well I've got small kids so the seats will help and everyone says you must own one once in your life)
Tuscan (gorgeous to look at and I like that big boot - golfer!)
T350 (beautiful and less likely to kill myself, not sure about targa roof)
Currently the needle is stopped back at Tuscan but that may change.
Anyway my question is about the engine variants. Is there any link to explain the chronology of release of the various S6 engines with bhp and any other relevant data.
For example, a Tuscan seems to have a standard 4.0, a standard 3.6, a 4.0S and also Red Rose variants. Is that correct and if so what's the difference?
A T350 similar?
Are the Cerb S6 engines just the same? (God they look cheap now!)
Confused so if anybody can shed any light that would be great.
Cheers, Simon
(Still not sure whether to go for ones with rebuild or not but I'll read the other threads for that)

If I remember correctly this is the order in which the cars were released but don't take it as gospel.
4.0 360BHP (2000)
4.0RR 380BHP (2000)
4.0S 390BHP (2001)
4.0S 405BHP (2002)
3.6 350BHP (2003)
4.0S revised to 380BHP (2006)
The Cerbera S6 was launched with a 4.0 350BHP engine IIRC.
T350's either have the 3.6 350BHP engine or the 3.6 RR 375BHP engine. There are a few T350's with factory fit 4.0S engines.
I do not know what the real difference is between all of the "S" versions.
Cheers
Bob

I'd always though the 3.6 was released with the Tamora (so before 2003)?
I'm also not sure whether power on the latest engines is actually down at all (just quoted lower). There was certainly a change in component parts in 2005 (as there was in 2004) but the actual performance remained unaltered.
Power in the t350's is different to the rest because of the restrictive exhausts; rumour has it even the higher spec 4.0 engines didn't produce as much power in the t350 because of the exhaust routing.

Interesting about the T350 being restricted. I am having a better exhaust fitted later this month so hopefully I'll get an improvement.
On recent power delivery at least one dealer is having their Sagaris checked out on a rolling road beacuse they don't think its making the number quoted.Apparantly their earlier T350 test car is quicker.
The recent rolling road test at Surrey would support this with a Saggy 'only' making 340 bhp.Still a mental figure of course.'Only' 340 bhp in 1.2 tonnes is still mental.
It would be good to get this cleared up sooner rather than later.
Simon,
What a dilema, and I'm glad that it's not mine, as I would just keep going round & round in circles, you see as I have already been there and upgraded I still hanker after all that I have owned. I hasten to add I've not had the delights of the V8S, but every one of them has given me a driving pleasure like no other, & one which I could comfortly go back to.
I also never tire of seeing that Tuscan reflection in shop windows, whether I'm in it, or going back to it after it's been parked up, "you must know what I mean?"
Best regards,
James Sim.

Hi James,
well the cat's amongst the pigeons now innit.
I've just worked myself up into a frenzy over getting a modern TVR and now who knows what will happen to S6 support.
Oh well I shall enjoy my V8S for a while longer whilst the dust settles.
Great to hear you enjoy the Tuscan. Never been in one unfortunately.

I think S6 support has never been better. A few companies have taken it upon themselves to make their own engine parts. I do not think they are reliant on TVR at all.

Correct and the parts are far superior in design and quality.[/quote]
Whilst I have the comfort of knowing all these aftermarket parts etc, will keep my P&J on the road, I am wondering what will happen to those with the current warranties?
Twas a very sad day for all the employees and the British Sports car industry, I cannot see production happening in any other country.
Best regards,
James Sim.
