In Cardiff last week just stopped at traffic lights idling normally (smoothly) between 800-900rpm and the engine went clunk and stopped dead (Tuscan Mk1).

AA brought it up to Middlewich for me and Torque RVT have taken the rocker cover off to reveal the auxilliary shaft has snapped - causing the chains to stop.

I had stopped for petrol and checked the oil about half an hour previous and all was fine.

Has anybody else suffered this problem, if so, was any other damage caused, how long did it take to put right and how much did it cost (ish).

Thanks in advance,

Colin

Colin,

Bit of a dilema that mate. I have never heard of this failure on the S6 (I assume its the shaft that is driven by the crank chain and in turn it drives the cams....)

Its probably just as well you were at tick over when it failed, I reckon you would searching for a second hand engine by now if you had been on full chat.

There are all sorts of possibilities as a result of this failure, you could be lucky and gotten away without any bent valves, but I would guess at worst it maybe a few bent valves and possibly some minor piston crown damage and at the outside a cracked valve guide or two. Obviously there may be damage to the top chain guides but I would guess not. You really need to get the head off and assess the extent of the damage. This really is speculation and probably why others have not responded to your request.

I am sorry I have no idea at the extent of the costs involved and I really hope it doesnt grow arms and legs once opened up.

Good luck

I think the bearing that the shaft runs is poor quality and on is known for failing .Almost certainly expensive unfortunatley .
