Anyone had any? Just curious as just having mine rebuilt, and wondered if there's still problems creeping in

That's interesting. Do you know why your engine failed (and how many miles had it covered)? To answer your question no, sorry - mine was an 07/04 car and did 18k miles without an issue.

Excuse my non-mechanically minded simplification of this, but you're saying your engine isn't been rebuilt, just having the cam replaced @ 30k miles?

Edited to say: and I assume yours isn't a '05 car (unless you've been really busy driving it!)

no its a 2001 engine, getting new parts replaced to match a 2005 spec engine, as it has been reccommended for a full rebuild inlcluding a blueprint upgrade also. wanted a full years waaranty so was the only way

I had my head rebuilt in June (and the car's! ) new cams and followers. So far I have had no problems, but then it is a bit early to tell yet.

Sounds like wear during cold start. Oil starvation to the top of the engine has been improved and oilways revised since 2001.

Engine will still need to be treat with care when cold.

How do you start it from cold..

I think it's best to not let the car idle directly from cold - instead use some more revs - lets say 1200 rpm for the first min to get the oil around.

Also - do you use the car everyday or just occasionally ..

With Occasional use the oil drains off more and needs longer to get around.

Not very useful - my car has done 7500 miles without a hint of any problems.

My 2001 Tuscan started playing up around 5500 miles, had 2 tappet adjustments before having the cam/followers replaced at 13000 miles in 2003. I traded it in at 27000 miles without having any subsequent problems, although I've heard under it's new ownership it has recently had the top end done again (I don't know why).

All I can say is that my 2005 engine is a lot quieter / smoother than the 2003 built engine which was also quieter / smoother than the 2001.

Cheers,

Andy.

Put 10,000 miles on my 2005 Tuscan since last October with no engine problems at all. It just gets better and better.

Same for me, its in for its 12K miles service and I didn't get any phone call from the dealer.

More a preventive niggles check-up because I planning a trip to France(2000 miles).

I have a 2003 Mk1 Tuscan which had a rebuild in Nov 2005 (with all the 2005 mods). I had a new engine not because it went bang but I had a coolent leak in the top of the engine and because of some shitty customer service the whole lot was replaced.

Anyway no probs so far in fact I have just hooned it all over Europe on the Furball5000 run and am very impressed with it.

Mine is currently having it's 24,000 mile service with TorqueRVT, and apparently has no problems whatsoever, and Ian's very thorough and would certainly spot and sort any cylinder head/camshaft/follower problems. That's a June 2002 engine.

I have ALWAYS kept the revs below 3000 until oil temp reaches at least 50oC, and always checked the oil at regular intervals. I rarely go beyond 7000 revs as the engine has topped out - simple care like that should keep most high performance engines in good condition, and not just TVR lumps.

Not sure if it helps but just over 10,000 on an 06 registered car including two track days. Used daily, had the top end checked at 8000 miles with an interim oil and filter change, 13 shims where changed and the inlet thingys adjusted all as a warrenty job. For information I check the oil daily and I haven't needed to top it up at all, the car is used quite hard and extremly hard on track days.
I can't sing the praises enough for a certain mechanic at a certain TVR dealer near a southern airport just off the M23..... If you know who I mean!

No need to be cryptic - you can say as much positive stuff you want about Gatwick TVR.

Just had my 12k service on my exactly 1 yr old Sagaris this week. DM said the engine looked pretty much perfect, they didnt see any need to adjust the tappets and that obviously I looked after the engine properly. I was more than happy.

Of course that didnt stop the air con needing regassing, one rear brake light connection sorting out and fiddling with the passenger side door seals to cut down the wind roar.

Engine was fine though In fact, its the most reliable bit on my car!
