I hope to get the car back in the next week or two following a new head gasket. Should I get the dealer to carry out an emissions test to see if the cat has been damaged? I certainly don't want the car failing an MOT in 10 months time. Its not had oil down it, only water vapour.

Well when then have the engine out they will have dropped the exhaust so you can look at the cats yourself to see if they are damaged. Even if they are not, I would suggest getting some de-cat pipes from Peninsula TVR(about £150+vat) and keeping your cats for MOT time as they will burn out over time anyway.

If you de-catt, does it make the car louder? I ask because I hear what you say regarding keeping the cats for the MOT, and thus lengthening their life, but I have a S Sports exhaust, and I certainly do not want the car any louder!

And Trefor, I sincerely hope your T350 is sorted once and for all this time around! Can only imagine how gutted you must have felt!

After 2 HFGs my car is staying standard thanks! Its under the TVR extended warranty and I want to keep it covered. Right now trust the Speed Six about as far as I can throw it.

Me too. Mines currently in bits after the factories full rebuild lasted 600 miles.

Ho hum.

Am I reading that right - your effectively brand new engine built to Sagaris spec let go after just 600 miles?

Hope everyone waved to our engines as they toured around the factory at the weekend...

yes it seems a shim decided to go walkabout inside the engine, the engine is being stripped to find the shim then assess the next step.

My sincerest sympathies - that is shocking.

Tell me, was this on the options list when you initially specced your car?

...no but as I shock Peter Wheelers hand as I ordered it at the 99 motorshow he was busy assuring me the engine was sorted and the Red Rose model would include an array of bits from the racing engine for more performance etc.

I guess he was right as that engine lasted 800 miles rather than the 600 on this one.
