people posting on this forum belong to companies I have never heard of (in some cases), preying on on our fears and suggesting that they can make our cars 'bullit-proof' for the small sum of between £6-£12?

You might have to be more specific here. I'm all for people offering engineering solutions to existing issues with some SP6 engines (mine included).
We're all free to read, and then part with our hard earned cash if we think the particular solution is right for ourselves. I'm not sure anyone can claim a bullet proof solution yet, even if they managed to define what that was in the first place. Talking in generalisations is what causes all the grief on this forum IMHO.

Yeah it makes me wonder how they can all be making a living being that the SP6 is so reliable an' all ...

*though in answer to your question .. No not at all .. I love reading about all the different approaches businesses and private individuals are taking to ensure the longevity of the TVR lump .. i guess one could always read the pie and piston if one is not bothered about engineering/motoring matters?

Don't get me wrong, I too love reading all the 'technical stuff', especially the people using the likes of undoubted professionals such as Al Melling and Austec - I guess the cynical side of me believes that perhaps some others may see some of us (S6 owners)as a way of making a quick buck, I have no evidence of this, just a feeling I get from reading between the lines in some posts.
I don't see any posts started by either of the two companies I mentioned, as they have happy customers who have no problem conveying their experiences of their rebuilds, which is how it should be.

From what I understand from conversations with Dave at Autocraft, they occasionally read Pistonheads, but prefer to let their work do the talking. It's a bit like a professional footballer posting on football365 to win over the fans. Over the next few months more engines will emerge from their workshops and with them a clearer idea on the actual levels of improved performance and reliability.
Obviously owners who have put their faith and money behind a particular company will champion their work, it's a natural bias of human nature. Where it goes wrong when owners run down one company/solution in favour of another. The only companies I get the impression have attempted to perhaps cynically profit financially from SP6 owners misfortunes tended to be the offical dealerships rather than the independent engineering firms.

When there are vested interests usually they are so obvious its easy to spot-however I think Chris you are spot on when anyone with interests of any kind posts they should have to declare their interes or relationship. If not they should be binned perhaps .After all the no name and shame rule is accepted by everyone-perhaps we need a declare or be binned rule?
