I've heard that the Speed Six was designed to use some oil - is this true?
If so, how much oil should she be drinking?
I use my car everyday & have done approx 1500 miles in the last 5 weeks. I've had to top her up twice during this period. Does this sound right, or is she using a bit too much?

The manual does state that the engine is designed to use some oil. However, mine (June 2004) and other 'later' engines have never used any oil.
I'd say 1 litre per 1000 miles isn't overly thirsty for a TVR engine though....

Dont just over 500 miles no oil use yet (53 Tus).Have heard oil use can be quite erratic but does sound alot.
What sounds a lot . The statement was its been topped up twice, not by how much.
Care should be taken to check the oil when hot. To do so otherwise will give a low reading on the dipstick.

Thanks guys. I've used just over a litre of oil in 1500 miles. It's booked in for it's 24k service next week, so I'll ask them to give it the once over whilst it's in.
A ltr in 1500 miles is fine...... IMO of owning a Speed 6 for 3yrs of course..
I agree with that. The engine does 'drink' a lot plus there are often problems with oil pressure senders and the cabling around it causing leaks. To put it into perspective, my Merc CLK with a 3.2L V6 drinks more than my Tusc did. Still though on both cars that is well withing the manufacturers limits.
My 2002 Tuscan never really used any. I had to top it up with less than 2 litres between services in 30,000 miles.
My Sagaris is really erratic, sometimes it seems to drink oil and sometimes it’ll go for while without using any at all. And I can’t find a link (yet) between types of driving and oil consumption.
