Firstly, Great forum. Have been reading most TVR related posts for the last six months and have learned a great deal. So much so that I bought a Tuscan at xmas. Without a doubt the best thing I have ever bought.

And so to the question. I generally do things to excess. So when the time came to get serious about buying I had decided that I wanted a Tuscan and it HAD to be a 4S.
Test drove a few and was blown away by the whole driving experience.
After some 'positive encouragement' from my wife to try the 3.6 (worried that the end was nigh with me behind the wheel of a 4S) I gave one a blast and was amazed at how much better it drove. The thrill factor was still there but the whole car just felt more.....together (for want of a better word).
I am interested as to why 4.0 & 4.0S owners decided to for those engines as this certainly won't be my last TVR.

I had a 3.6L Tuscan. IMHO, the 3.6 is a smoother engine and is perhaps a little more driveable in slippery conditions as the torque comes in a bit higher up the rev range.

I’ve driven a loads of different 3.6, 4.0 and 4.0S cars and I’d say the feel you get is as much to do with their state tune (i.e. have they recently been services or connected to a laptop and has throttle pots balanced, etc.) as it is to do with engine size. Although if both were properly tuned, I daresay I could tell the difference between a 3.6 and 4.0S.

Shortly after my 3.6 Tuscan engine was rebuilt by TVR Power I had a spirited drive behind a Tuscan S along the A43 coming back from Silverstone TVR. I had to keep lifting off every time we accelerated as mine was slightly faster than the 4.0S.

I really like the 3.6 for its smoothness, the way it revs and I even think the exhaust note is a little bit nicer – it seems a bit more linear. However, as the American’s say “there ain’t no substitute for cubes!”

[/quote]Surely you mean 'There's no replacement for displacement'.
