Best engine oil for 4.0 Speed Six Tuscan?
Discussion
There are many opinions and i'm not sure any have been said to be completley right or completley wrong. Mine is a 2000 model 4.0L with 24k on the clock. On the advise of my indie mechanic (Brian 'the guru' at TopCats) i use a top quality semi-synthetic. You will find many on here using Mobil 1.
Its hobsons choice.

I know what you mean about the opieoilman thread, think it went on for about ten pages!
I *believe* his recommendation at the end of all of it was 0w40.
That said however, a more viscous oil will mean that less gets eaten by the engine.
Yes, I remember that, and have been told by others who seem to know a lot more than me that, although the S6 will drink more of the thinner 0W-40, it is the best for the engine, overall, and that's what I have been using (Tam now on 20K miles without probs)

My indie mechanics view was that the Fully Syn oil got too thin at high temperatures causing a loss of oil pressure.

Yep. that's what I use.
Ill go with that next time when I get another Tuscan. unrepentants engines never die. He must be doing something right! Oh that and Melling knows his stuff too.
My only concern is that in the depths of last winter, the colder it got, you could literally feel the engine struggle to push through the thickness of the oil at that temperature. I suppose there is a trade off with the better performance of the 15w50 under high stress, compared to the better performance whilst warming up and thus less wear during this time.
