4.0S 390-406 bhp

I was just wondering if anyone knew where the incremental increases in power have come from during the development of the 4.0S engine.
It started life at a claimed 390 bhp. Then hit 400 for the last mk1 tuscan S's. The Sagaris is quoted at 406 bhp.
But I can't imagine it's from the exhaust as I would imagine the side exit exhausts are more restrictive than the tuscan's straight line set up.
Either way this progression is very cool and is evidence that TVR are continuing to develop the engine, which hopefully means doing things to make it last longer too. I'm sure the cynics would argue that there is no difference other than the numbers TVR quote.
But virtually every autocar etc test of a new S6 engined car usually involves the words 'every new version of the S6 seems better and smoother than the last'. I at least think they are doing stuff. I just wonder where the extra 16 bhp has come from?

Being absolutely no way mechanically minded whatsoever... I would hazard a guess that the gains have come about through a collection of minor mods, tweaks and upgrades rather than any major reworking of the engines, i.e better componentry, ECU's, higher quality mechanics/parts etc. Just IMO though.

Latest copy of EVO are testing the Tuscan II and TVR are now quoting 365 bhp they say they are being more realistic about bhp.
When EVO dyno'd it : it make 348 bhp.. not bad with a just run in engine .. but well short of 400 bhp.
Wonder if the Sagaris would follow the same patern.
The Sagaris I test drove at the weekend did not even feel as quick as my T350 ..so my seat of the pants bhp meter would guess it does not make 400bhp.
But all this is crap - the are all fantastic cars, look stunning, fantastic to drive - who cars about how mucj bhp they make.. just get out there and drive them.

What have TVR done to make the handling so good? and is the handling better than say, a chimaera with well set-up ohlins?
Just thinking, its still double-wishbone, the engine is still frontish, the gearbox and diff are still the norm... tyres are around the same size... so how come the Sagaris being based on a Tuscan chassis achieve such a good level of handling ability on track?

Different dampers, different mounting points, wider track, more downforce through revised aerodynamics.
The Sagaris isn't that far ahead of a decently set up t350/Tamora/Tuscan, but a few tweaks have improved it without doubt....

I haven't taken a tape measure to one, but it's supposedly 50mm wider and 25mm lower than the t350.
The mounting points are definately different, thus it's difficult to modify a t350 to have the same geometry.
The shocks are still Bilstein but were developed especially for the car conjunction with the manufacturer. I'm not sure if the roll bars are the same as the t350 or not, but you do seem to get less roll (which could be due to the height difference).
Wider wishbones and longer shafts.... all new T350 come with exactly the same chassis as the Sagaris now, complete with the new mount pickups, they just use a second set of the narrower track.... reduces costs and must make sense. So the big difference is the body shape to accomodate the wider track.

I read it as though the Saggy chassis is used on t350's, the new mount points for the suspension are not used, and the standard t350 track is retained.
You could therefore use the saggy parts to widen a t350 and make it handle similarly to a saggy, but it's look daft because the body would be 25mm a side narrower than the wheels.....

Don't forget the chassis on the newer cars is stronger (and I suspect therefore stiffer), esp. with the virtual full cage of the T350/Sagaris. Also look under the drivers seat - its actually bolted to something solid now (I can't believe I drove my Chimaera around like that for 6 years - every owner should get a Towerview stylee steat mounting reinforcement IMO).
No not driven one (Sag)- but been in one a good few miles following mate in mine, and followed same in france (b4 I got bored and had to go past! - that is a wind-up, but alot less torque shows). So stiff - like a go kart - I am going to have seriously stiff springs on mine - see other thread.
I recon a full cage and much better suspension is the key yes.
Mine will have a rear and side cage built for it - all custom stuff - don't want to dis in a side impact - which I would with it as it is at the moment.
And will have shit hot suspension on it b4 LM06.
