I thought the 1,000 mile service was free with the exception of the oils?
That's what I thougth but I was told otherwise when I collected my car from the garage. I was told that the first service is a 12,000 mile service without the labour cost.

I thought about that but I've found that the factory doesn't show much interest in their customers once they've paid for and collected their car. I've tried phoning and emailing them for a variety of other reasons and have yet to talk to or hear back from anyone. They're certainly not the customer centric company they we're during my previous two cars.
At a guess looking at your breakdown of charges, I would think it is the tappet setting that shouldn't have been charged for.
Maybe if you don't believe you will get a response from TVR then it may be worth calling a couple of alternative dealers to double check.
At least that way you may have tome ammo to fire at your dealer. Personally when you have just spent circa £40K I think it is a bit rich that they want to charge you just short of £400

Here's what I've found out so far:
As standard the supplying dealer stands the cost from their profit on the sale. However, in my case the supplying dealer no longer exist so I've had to go to an alternate authorised service centre which is why my service wasn't free.

The 1000 mile service is free. But obviously you have to go to a proper TVR dealer.

Were you a customer of Silverstone TVR??
Even if the dealer charges for a first service and some do charge for the parts, the labour and in particular the labour for the tappets is reclaimed by the dealer as warranty, this is pretty much the industry standard nowadays (except tappets, most modern engines have hydraulic adjustment )
As for never using an independent, what a load of old tosh, most independents are as good if not better than main dealers, you only have to read the threads on here to see that and besides a large number of independents used to main dealers anyway!
