Dont think you need to search far to find peoples views.
But there are a lot of non S6 owners who are either biased and/or who have never owned a S6 (including me!).
I guess you ought to seek out the views of Cerb S6 owners.
They are a much cheaper option to buy. They are arguably a better car (eg engine doesnt mind traffic as much, some mags prefer them etc)
The Tuscan S6 forum or the Speed six forum is a better place to look at feedback re the engines.
If you get a good one at a good price then I am sure it will be fab BUT you then have to sell it later and/or it might not be so fab .......
But then again the V8s can be a right pain as well (but just much less frequently).

I think Gary's answer is spot on.
Well Toady I love my S6 cerb and now wouldn't change it for anything else despite wadding up for a rebuild after 22k miles. In all honesty if I were buying again back in 2002 I would buy a 4.5LW.
In 2005 my approach would be a complete basket case and a nuts and bolts customisation including an LS1 conversion.

The speed 6 is a good engine, it has flaws though. If you bear that in mind and keep a small 5k+ wad in the pocket you'll be fine.
The V8's are wild, they rev quicker than a blink and all their power just waiting to throw you off the road the moment you touch that throttle. And I dont believe I've heard of any 4.5 engine failures in the past 12 months, soooo, another good thing huh.
The early 4.2's could have the dodgy cams, dodgy clutches, dodgy cranks, dodgy block castings.... so I'd say do your homework before choosing a 4.2, but a good 4.5 would be the safest way to go, IMO!

No, they're not "crap", they're different.
Come to Cream, and I'll give you a ride.
I bought mine new, and never regretted it. Superior in my mind over the V8s.
Hi mate, im coming to cream now and would love a ride in your sp6 if the offers still there? also would anyone with a 4.2 and 4.5 be able to show me what theyre like too??? pretty plz!!!
went out in a 4.2 the other day and loved it- totally convinced me to get a cerb, just gotta figure out which one to go for etc....
You can have a ride round in mine, it's a 96 4.2 so it's at the bottom of the price pile.
A good starter Cerb.
I've just looked at A Cerb catalogue, it lists the 6 as being 30kg heavier than the other Cerbs, not that you'll notice though.
Strangely enough, I'm looking forward to accelerating out of a bend & seeing the car behind keep up, or on Saturday come past

If you search this forum and check out the Al Melling/Autocraft thread you'll be able to trace the story!
Basically, I'm having the head modified by Autocraft - it's been a long process (they've made a lot of the parts from scratch) but she should be back in the next couple of weeks. They're due to have the first couple of cars back on the road by next week I think.

Is that the same company who are doing the 'blower' conversion I am hearing about?
