Replacing the Speed Six with a V8
Discussion
Hi Tim,
I suggest you speak to Boosted LS1 his website is below if anyone can do it he is probably the man.

Still shame to give up on the speed six some of us are trying to get the rebuild / repair costs down so it need not be such a disaster.
But I do understand your frustration

The chassis is designed for a straight 6 and is too narrow for a V8-even a small block. It would need serious and expensive work to wedge one in,although no doubt one day someone is going to try.
I thought that Mike Johnson had measured it and was waiting for a project car. Instruments, manifolds(esp around the steering column) and proximity of bulkhead are the main areas of concern AFAIK. Good luck with a chat to Boosted if you try. J
And why do you think I am asking? Just to annoy everyone?? or because maybe I'm a bit thick??
No; I had a computer problem and haven't been able to find any of the replies I received, nor did I get any of the notifications usual with this site.
So, next time you waste a few precious moments of your life typing something that will waste a few moments of mine (and everyone else who has the misfortune to stumble across your "contribution" (and I use the term with some sarcasm, in case you werre wondering), perhaps you ought to engage your brain and remember why you are on here: it is a forum, a virtual space for the exchange of information, ideas and opinions. Some people even forge lasting friendships on forums like this.
Seeing as I've been advised to come on here by TVR to research this issue (with a warning that I might encounter the odd a***hole - what foresight...), I was glad to see that some kind people have been able to point me in the right direction.
You, however, Mr Unrepentant, are seemingly here to post irrelevant comments and to provide no assistance at all.
Why are you here? Nothing intelligent to contribute? Maybe you're in the wrong place.

Ah personal insults. Excellent. The last refuge of the intellectually challenged.
Thanks for the bhpworld link, that makes very interesting reading. I've already had a chat with a couple of experienced engine builders / race prep guys and the possibilities are interesting.
Alternatively I might just swallow the cost for a rebuild and then hang around on here and make stupid, unimaginative comments to people with genuine questions.

Tim it's certainly worthing considering the Autocraft rebuild of your engine against a V8 install. It's worth bearing in mind that Jon sunk an awful lot of personal time into the conversion. If you had to pay for this as well, you may be looking at several thousand more than Jon paid, assuming an LS will fit of course.
